Someone sent a letter bomb to his private home in Bologna and he apparently opened it himself but in a very careful way so that he wasn't hurt.

What I find weird is that someone in such a high political position opens his letters himself without any scanning or so.

What I also find interesting to think about is who might be behind it.
 
There have been a few more attacks in Italy lately, mostly targeted at those espousing a free market-liberal point of view ( for example, an economist who had authored a report on the labour market in Italy was assassinated earlier).
 
True, but the Red Brigades or whoever claims to have revived them usually don't send this unsophisticated letter bombs.
 
One theory might be that it was an Italian right-wing group/individual - the book in which it was hidden was by a famous Italian nationalist & supporter of Mussolini. Maybe they don't want Prodi back to challenge Berlusconi :scan:.
 
That is a surprising lack of security, especially with terror threats, etc.
