Decided to create this map for playing on the "old" world. There are similar maps in the database, but imho not any quite as good :). I used a custom projection that makes areas more equal and has curvature that looks like you're looking at a globe. In this projection, I wanted to minimize non-playable areas like the soviet far east, and they are fairly minimal. It would have been nice to show all of Africa, but couldn't have everything.

A lot of time was spent on the geographic details to make it as accurate as possible for terrain. For example there is mostly tundra, pine forest, and marsh in Siberia, and much of Europe, India, and China are forests. I didn't spend quite as much time on the resources so they are semi-historical only, but I hope will give your games an accurate "flavor".

I've played on this map with 24 civs, and renamed Inca, Maya, Iroquois, and Aztec to Congolese, Indonesia, Siam, and Khmer, and Ottomans became the Turks and moved into Central Asia (to compete with Russia, Mongolia, and China) for a great experience. But this map has no custom civs or rules, just the map. Enjoy!

Wow, that looks outstanding!

:goodjob:Cool:goodjob:, I was looking for a map like this!!! I can use it in my upcoming Scenario.

Thanks all.

I've found that (unfortunately) this gets quite slow on my system after sufficient cities are founded. I just don't have the horsepower :) So I'm working on a variation that's 130x70 and eliminates just a bit of territory off the north and south.

I really like the sound of that! (I like smaller maps just for gameplay reasons, not necessarily because my computer bites.)

Not sure what you were thinking when you put Zululan start location in Sweden, and other strange things like that- but the map is really good
