For the 1st time, there are to many country for the Eurovision Contest. And so, for the 1st time, there will be 2 semi-final to join Serbia and the "4 Big's".
In the last 4-5 years, didn't see any quality over them songs...
enfim

So this year is in Belgrade.
I have seen some of the contests songs. And video of Iceland still is the must funny... :D

So this year:
who will win?

Eurovision 2008 - Belgrade (from post 1 to 123)
Eurovision 2009 - Moscow (from post 124 to 303)
Eurovision 2010 - Oslo (from post 304)

Huh? I'm sure they had semi-finals last year.

So this year:
who will win?

Ireland. Singing turkey will collect the protest votes and it's them that decide this competition.

I was thinking Chiki Chiki has a shot for the same reason. I love the joke entries, and I'm glad irony is alive and well in Spain.

This is the first time I actually like Romania's. In fact I think it's great. For the first time in years.

Of course, we never sing fully in Romanian. I see no reason why they had to put the Italian in there, however I like the sound of Italian so much that I don't mind too much. I do mind that by singing 40% of the song in Italian and the rest in Romanian, it became a little kitschy. The music, however, I really like.

Eurovision is however extremely stupid, as well as almost all the songs in it. Political voting is incredibly stupid. I see no obligation to vote for my own country if other ones are better. I simply don't see it. Not that I would ever bother to vote anyway, but still... :)

I know who will not win - Czech rep. One of the worst songs which I have ever heard in media.

Looking somewhat objectively (not fully, as it is difficult as there is large ammount of different song styles / genres, and cultural issues), these songs seem like skillfully made in their own category / genre: the singers are good, and instrumentals are also good.

Might win if considering singers / melody:
(because of politics / immigrants / culture stuff, none of these will really win, even tho should):

(strong singers and strong melody)

(stage show could be good in this song, and as song isn't bad either...)

(Kind of new style beatles?)

Good imo, worth mentioning, but will not win:

(singer is a bit too weak, but melody is great, will not win tho)

(Kind of wannabe mainstream USA popish (Britney, Timberlake) ?)

(Jazzish votes, so this will atleast go through semi-finals)

The one of Azerbaijan is simply amazing. It's just great, compared to all the other's I've listened to. That would SO get my vote if I were to vote.

Italy will win.

EDIT: Last time I checked a map of Europe, neither Israel nor Azerbaijan were in it.

I was watching a program last night and they said that one of the Euro song contests was fixed so that Cliff Richard did not win, it was a Spanish government or something who rigged the vote so that Spain would win as some sort of propaganda exercise. Sad really who the hell would fix such a silly competition anyway. It's Eurovision not a real music award. :D

Terry Wogan had the right attitude I think. :)

Israel are in the European cup too IIRC? Can't say I really care, and it's not like they can play against the Arab countries too often. :D

I like Germany. Then again, its in English, which is confusing me..why isn't it in German?

Well that's kinda obvious, and you can sing in any language you like, it's just not as likely you'll win if you do, much of a musics impact is in the lyrics. If the judges can't understand you then you probably wont score as well. It's a lingua franca thing. It's pragmatic to host in a language that more people will understand too. I think they do several languages when they do the points anyway, so that everyone can understand what is going on. I can't say I've watched it in an Aeon though. :)

Ohhh. God, I wish I was European so I could actually have a personal stake in this (seriously). I just like the music (though the Serbs, Turks, and Irish can't exactly...sing).

Anyone can sing, it's just some countries turn out some real crap. But then that's the European song contest. Most of the entrants can sing, whether what they are singing is worth listening to is a matter of opinion. ;):D
