Even More OCC series bullpen
There can be only one! ....city.
Welcome to the Even More OCC series bullpen! This thread is for the introduction of the series and for making it easier to follow what's been done and what's not. Also, I'm hoping to get ideas for future games here so please let me know if you have any.
After not touching Civ4 at all for some months I started to think that it would be nice to try some casual OCC games, mainly because they're fast to play through. As I like to play maps that have been generated for some kind of competitive play (basically XOTMs) I checked the forums for active OCC games, just to find none. That's when I got this weird idea to try to play a OCC game with each available leader and turn it into a series. Yes, also those whose traits suck in OCC will be played and I'll even start with one. Previous OCC Clubs have died away after few games despite having 10-20 players, I'm hoping this series to last a bit longer.
In contrary to most series I will only offer one save file for each game so that everybody plays the game with the same difficulty level and other options. This way we get more games that are comparable with each other and can better find out the pros and cons of different strategies. First game will be on noble but the difficulty level will vary from game to game between noble and immortal, not necessarily in cycles as in XOTMs, though. Thus, some games will be quite easy while some may be very tough, so hopefully there will be something for everybody. In those easy games we can compare victory dates and in harder ones we see who can actually win the game. I encourage also players who normally play below noble to participate because winning isn't everything and it's easier to copy strategies from better players in OCC games compared to normal ones because there are less variables involved. Idea is to play these games without replaying any turns but who am I to stop you making a second try from the beginning after failing miserably during the first one.
Most of the games will have only some specific victory condition available but there will be also "normal" games with all options open. I'll try to keep maps as unmodified as possible but I also have some heavily modified scenarios in mind. You can also make suggestions for future games in this thread if you have some ideas in mind. I'll try to include interesting leader/map type/victory condition combinations to the series.
I won't be posting new games on regular intervals with some kind of tight schedule. Of course it would be nice to get one game per week up and running but can't promise it will happen. Instead, I promise to post a notification in this thread when a new game is available.
To play these games you'll obviously need Civ4 BtS 3.19. You'll have two saves available: one with BUFFY mod installed (BUFFY is used in XOTMs and HoF games and you can get it here) and one with no mods needed.
