I have been pillaging the EusebiusWorldReligion-Revival mod for religions, especially those asked for about the place. Unfortunately they are not quite up to what we would expect in RoM:mischief: If yo already have my mod installed install these into the DancingHoskuld/Custom_Religion folder. If you don't have my mod then create the folder DancingHoskuld/Custom_Religion and put these in.

Update July 2011 - after pillaging the Total War mod and others I now have almost everything needed to make these religions match the standard religions in detail. I just need to make them a bit more unique.

Are there any people out there who can help?

So far I have found and am testing (in alphabetical order):-
  • Bahai - OK
  • Jainism - OK
  • Masons not a religion they are a gentleman's club/secretive society. ;)
  • Mormon - needs some better graphics
  • Sikh - to be loaded..

For RoM they need:-
  • founding tech
  • one or more unique religion wonders

They need also need:-
  • sounds
  • founding movies
  • unique missionary unit
  • missionary effect - the symbol that floats above their head when they try to spread their religion

Not sure Masonry would really work as a Civ religion. Isn't it kind of tied up into Christianity anyway? It might work better as an add on for that, or possibly even as a guild/corporation.

Does the mod you're pillaging have anything for the Orthodox branch of Christianity? Whenever the Byzantines turn up in my game, I always wish I could assign that to them. The Phoenician religion followed by Carthage would also be awesome.

I am not doing Freemasonry as a religion at all. I am doing it as a gentleman's club, which sort of matches its development and spread. First someone creates the "Society of Freemasons" which is a project then anyone can build Lodges. When you have enough you can build the Grand Lodge (NW). From what little I know, Freemasonry is tied to monotheism not Christianity in particular. because they are a secretive society I thought they would be a good earlier set of spy related buildings.

As to other religions I am just pillaging a few from various places based on requests. However they will not become part of my mod if I can't get them up to speed. Ie all the stuff I mentioned in the first post. At the moment none of those I have posted come up to the minimum level needed for inclusion.

And yes the source mod has lots on different "cults" within the various major religious groups.:mischief: As does Rapture another good source. However the basic mechanism in RoM is not suited to such factioning and I don't think I am up to writing it.

I'm on board. Really glad to hear you have some stuff on Sikhism; they are one of my favorites to study. They have about 13mil adherents, about the same as Mormonism.

I have started putting together stuff for Mormonism, since it is the one I am most familiar with. I would propose the corporation-spreading unit (executive) as the missionary, made into a 2-person multi-unit.

Are you okay with having any Civics, Resources, and/or Events that go along with these religions? Mormonism has some specific predictions about how the "end times" will go down, that could make an interesting optional victory condition also (building "Zion" as a world project).

Before the file gets too overworked (I could tweak these endlessly, and they are nowhere near complete), here are my current proposed buildings, units, events, and civics associated with Mormonism.

NOTE: These last two effects I would consider "controversial": they represent the effects that some religions believe would occur if their anticipated Messiah were to arrive, but which other religions would see as unfair representation in the mod (since no other religions are given supernatural events). To keep it neutral, it would probably best to not have supernatural effects, and just give effects that could be real even if the "Messianic Advent" was a hoax that never got disproved.

Mormons are Christians, aren't they? I dislike adding in sub-denominations.

It depends. They say that they are, but then they also say that they aren't related to any of the existing Christian denominations, and that they didn't even come from any of them, but instead are a completely new animal (new DNA, not from existing stock, you might say, since they say that they were founded by divine messengers calling a new prophet, just as Moses was.

There is also the problem of a lot of mainstream Christian denominations saying that Mormons aren't Christians. Frankly, I don't care about what their detractors say. But the logic is that they are different enough from the rest to warrant inclusion as a new world religion.

I know that Mormons are Christian, I mean look at Glenn Beck. I just went to his 8.28 rally in DC and it was incredible, very diverse crowds of people. (500,000 people) It was like a big sermon very Godly atmosphere. I'm a non-denominational christian I know that as long as they believe Christ died and rose on the third day, they are my brother en in faith.:D

That's very cool; my wife and I wanted to go to his rally, but she has been very ill for the last week. Is it true that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang at it? I wish we could have been there. I think Bill O'Riley said something silly like, if there are more than 100,000 there, he would quit his show. I can't wait to see how that plays out :)

I'm not saying that Mormons aren't the same as Christians because I'm against them. I'm actually one myself. But the argument is that they are as different from Christianity as Christianity is from Judaism. It could be said that Christianity is just a branch of Judaism, having the same God, the same basic commandments, the same prophets in common. But Judaism rejected the new scripture, new prophetic authority, and new doctrine that was added by Jesus and his apostles. In the same way, Mormonism is rejected very firmly by much of Christianity because of its use of new scripture, its claims of new prophetic authority, and the new doctrines that have been added.

Donations topped out at 5.1 million dollars for "Wounded Warriors Foundation" America is a judeo-christian country, which makes Jews and Christians walk hand in hand. I don't think it was his choir it was Alveda King's congregation (Dr. King's Niece) truly inspirational should have came brother! Oh yeah Beck will probably never quit his show, he will be around till he goes blind (I pray to God he gets better though, He is America's voice) even if you hate him 90 percent of the time he has been right about Obama's true intentions of what he wants to "Fundamentally transform our country." into

A preliminary version of Bahai is now available in the first post. It is almost all from the Rapture (WoC lite) mod.

Before the file gets too overworked (I could tweak these endlessly, and they are nowhere near complete), here are my current proposed buildings, units, events, and civics associated with Mormonism.

I'm attaching OVERLY LONG Civilopedia entries for each of these--I figure too much information is fine in the planning stage; these can be edited down when we're sure which ones will be included.

I still need to read this in depth but my initial concern is that if two nations are Mormon can they have access to a balanced national wonders/resources. Basically "a level playing field".

Suggestion:-
Change to Shipyard:
• builds wooden ship units 20% faster with Hemp
(Hemp was used to make ropes for sea-going vessels)

Good question (on balance). If two civs have Mormonism:

1. Lost Scripture

1a. The founder might get 5 Ancient Scripture resources later on (after Messianic Advent event, if he trades with whoever got the event, or if he got the event himself) when he builds Opening Cumorah

1b. There is another way that someone could get Ancient Scripture, though: by getting the Lost Tribe Returns event. So if the two Mormonism-interested civs aren't friendly, they could still possibly have access to the Lost Scripture resource.

1c. Lost Scripture isn't required to build anything. It gives extra happiness with some Mormonism buildings, extra research or gold with others. So if for some reason someone wants to utilize Mormonism but doesn't ever get access to it, he will still be fine.

2. Standard Works

2a. Whoever builds Temple Square first will have 5 sources of it.

2b. Whoever builds Temple Square will also have a chance to build the wonder that gives 20 additional sources of it (a big number, but you want enough to be able to give it to everyone).

2c. Your point about needing balance if there is more than 1 civ who wants to pursue Mormonism is important. I hadn't considered the need for this, since Mormonism is highly centralized. But I looked into the issue, and the LDS Church publishes a lot of its scriptures in countries where they will be utilized. So it would make sense (and give better balance) to let Flooding the Earth be a national wonder, just require an LDS Temple in the city, rather than Temple Square, and only provide 5 sources of Standard Works (it could be fewer, if you think necessary).

2d. Standard Works isn't required to build anything, it just makes Mormonism more effective (greater happiness, faster build on a few things). Conversely, I have suggested that its normal effect be to give unhappiness, so that it has a negative effect unless you build the Mormonism buildings that get happiness from it.

3. I eliminated the LDS Conference Center, and instead made an LDS Church HQ wonder that gives money for every Mormonism building, and made it not dependent on Temple Square.

I have replaced the .doc file in my second post, with these changes and others, including a suggestion about tweaking ideology civics (extra effects for "vice" and "anti-vice" buildings, depending on ideology type).

@Camber,

Wow! The details you have put together for the inclusion of Mormonism are fantastic. They are very well thought out. Thanks for your efforts and thanks to Dancing Hoskuld for his plans to include Mormonism.

Anyone know how to finish the building plans for Mormonism?

I can do the XML but it needs graphics, without them it is going nowhere. I have been working on extending my Subdue Animals mod, spurred on by StrategyOnly's prehistoric mod. It now has more animals, different buildings and does more. It even produces correct messages now. I need to create an INI or options for it and put in language support and it will be up to standard ;)

There is a new version of the Mormon religion stuff in the first post.

Only the basic buildings (temple, monastery, cathedral and shrine) and the missionary unit so far. Also much of the graphics and sound have been recycled from the Andean religion until I can get round to replacing them with better art - or someone provides the art.

It looks like the suggested pedia text is to long so I will have to edit it. Current defaults are based on the document provided by Camber in post #5. I have not chased down his graphics suggestions yet. I made a movie for the shrine from a cool picture on the LDS Portal, I need to credit the artist in the pedia!

I've been considering a whole 'Secret Society' mod for this, in which Masonry would be included, as well as the Illuminati, the Yakuza, the Thule Society and the Brotherhood of the Black Dragon (largely responsible for the Japanese element in WWII) among others. Will take some compiling and some figuring out how to make it work according to its role in the world.

As for the religions, we're moving in the right direction but may need some more for the untouched 'older' religions, if we can find some more ideas there, like the Phoenecian religion...

Also... what about Satanism? Even the US army recognizes it as a religion as unpopular as it may be (for good reason).

I have tried to get FreeMasonry working, it shows up correctly in the civlopedia but does not show up in game:confused:. Then I got side tracked by other mods.

JonnySmith's Rapture mod an EusebiusWorldReligion-Revival mod are a great source for religions but they don't go in the same direction as the RoM mods and so need extra stuff added.

Satamism - don't forget that this game is played by children - perhaps as an optional extra you have to install yourself in some way.

I have newer versions of the Bahai and Mormon religions to post soon. However the Mormon religion is currently one you don't want to get unless you have to. It's current malus from resources you have no control over is a bit much. Which is why I am thinking of going in a different direction.

Instead of increasing unhappiness with all those resources why not just remove access to them for the city. It is even more realistic. :). Not sure if it will work, and not sure if I can do multiple resources per building. I will give it a go and report back.

Edit I spoke too soon. I can only remove one bonus per building :(
