    From my meager understanding of Events, it appears that this mod does not have many events. The 1936 open-play format is kind of quiet.

    Is anyone interested in contributing to creating a bunch of events for the mod? Dale, will there be events in the upcoming patch?

    The armchair historians who frequent this mod could really add a lot to the game in this way. Anyone interested?

    I'd love to incorporate events into the mod if a relevant list can be though up. :)

    You heard it folks. All you history buffs, get to work. Over in the Modding tutorials and Reference section is this page:

    http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=230567

    Even if you don't want to learn the xml or python (but you know you do...) it would be great to hear the suggestions.

    My preference, which isn't more important than YOUR preference, is to see events that keep the historical tensions without an inevitable DOW between Civs. Flavor stuff too, things that did happen in history at that time.

    How historical? If you read enough books on the era you find some far-fetched and not so far-fetched plans that never actually happened for whatever reason. If they had then outcomes would always be slightly or greatly changed. Does it matter if an Event changes the course of mod at times?

    I'm thinking of kidnapped scientists to gain techs, assassinations, factory explosions, secret missions that succeed or fail. All of this could have happened and most likely did without us knowing.

    Ooooh, that is good stuff. I am getting ahead of the process here, but we can have different files, some conservative, some way-out and somewhere in between.

    I suspect that with BtS in general, in the near future you will see a thread here just for event files, and folks will create custom event files to suit their tastes and share them with others of similar warped mind.

    One of the properties of the events is their likelihood of being chosen for the game, and also the likelihood of them occurring once they are included in the game.

    I'm off for a week of vacation, taking with me two WW2 books, and a notepad to write down my historical events I'd like to incorporate in the file.

    Not really a BtS style event, but I would really like to see the German battleship Bismark in the game as an extra strong UU. Maybe the AI/player can save her from immediate sinking in the game :)

    Or perhaps (maybe as an "alternate reality" scenario) a chance for Germany to develop nuclear weapons before anyone else - Since historically, if Einstein and others hadn't defected, they most likely would have. Maybe some kind of quest to win the German intelligentsia over or some such - like having spies infiltrate the Reich to hold secret meetings with German scientists and that kind of thing.

    Going back to the Bismark thing, what about unit-specific events? For example, Bismark was the most powerful, heavily armored ship on the sea in the brief time it was afloat. It was sunk mainly due to a torpedo hit that caused an oil leak that allowed it to be easily tracked. So could there be events tied to a specific unit, IE Bismark is a strong ship, but there is a chance after every fight of some kind of trigger going off - bringing up a dialog like "The Bismark has suffered severe damage and is rapidly losing fuel. It is sure to sink unless you get it to port for repairs." And then it loses strength until it is destroyed or put to port.

    OR.. maybe a chance for the Germans to capture the French navy before its seizure/destruction by the British... Quite a turn since one the major reasons Germany couldn't carry out operation Sea Lion was lack of a signifigant, non-Uboat navy.

    Sorry for the muddled post, but its late and I'm tired.. just thought I'd throw out these random suggestions that popped into my head as I was browsing. :)

    Okay, do NOT start that stuff. Both the Bismarck and the Yamato are stacked there in Davy Jone's locker, on equal footing now. <g>

    "What if" events are surely to be included, I would think.

    :D Let's not start eh?

    I won't put in any major events (DoW's and stuff). Things that affect a unit, or city, or plot for sure! :)

    How about events that can spawn Great People? I'm thinking stuff like famous generals appearing and the like.

    Can we allow the regular events to occur in the 1936 Europe OPen play scenario?

    Are there ANY events in the open play scenario?

    Thanks.

    There's none. The scenario files have the OPTION_NO_EVENTS tag in the header. It's possible to turn it off, I just haven't done it. :)

    Sorry Dale that I was too lazy to look for that. I am interested in seeing what is involved in adding events, so I think I will play around with adding the Vichy event to the "Open Play 1936" scenario, and allowing other events....

    I see the ww2 events as a more long range, evolving project.

    Adding the Vichy trigger to open is easy!

    In ..\The Road to War\Assets\Python\CvRtWEventManager.py

    Search for "# Vichy France trigger" and change the code to the following:

    Code:
                    # Vichy France trigger
    		if (game.getVichyHappened() == 0):
                            if (self.Map == 0 or self.Map == 2):
                                    [b]if (self.HistEvents == 0 or self.HistEvents == 1 or self.HistEvents == 2):[/b]
                                            if (self.getFrenchAxisCities() > self.numFrenchCitiesFall):
                                                    self.EVichy()

    Thanks Dale!

    Okay, back to the OPTION_NO_EVENTS line in the header.... I DID look this time and didn't see it in any of the scenario *.CivBeyondSwordWBSave files. What do I need to change to allow the regular events to occur in the scenario?

    Ahhh.... you are correct. My mistake. :)

    In that case, all you need to do is delete the entire folder:

    ..\Mods\The Road to War\Assets\XML\Events\

    I do not know if this will cause any errors though, I suspect it will but I haven't tried it myself. This will turn on the BtS events.
