This is loading from a quick save while in game, as well as loading from the main menu after I first load a game. Also saved games take forever to load. Seems like this was after the last patch.

Faulting application CivilizationV_DX11.exe, version 1.0.0.20, time stamp 0x4c9c6592, faulting module CvGameCoreDLLFinal Release.dll, version 3.0.3.0, time stamp 0x4c9c5f39, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0007e109, process id 0x13b8, application start time 0x01cb60572ce39d85.

So mad props to Firaxis for a $50 dollar brick. Heck Elemental at least got better with patches...

Some people are experiencing crashes when trying to load a saved game from an earlier patch version. Can you include your saved game to see if others can duplicate the result.

I did this a number of ways to make sure I wasn't smoking crack (well... not last night anyways...)

I created a number of new games and saved them. All were saved int he new larger file size.

I went back to a previously saved game and resaved in a new save slot. That too was in the new file size.

I did quick saves with these games, all were in the new larger file size.

All loading in game after the initial load caused a crash to desktop.

If you want a copy of one of these saved games I will post up tonight, but the behavior of Civ is conistant, which is why I tested this stuff out. Which is more than I can say for Firaxis.

Yes, please post a save that crashes when you load it. If someone else can reproduce the crash, that makes it more likely that the game is bugged.

Hello,

Just got my original copy today (collectors edition) and until now I played a "black" version which used the first game patch.

I try to load my game and it crasked to the desktop. Same problem as the guy in the first post.

I think this is a patch thing.

I tested both save files posted by -PET-. I was not able to reproduce the crashes. Details follow:

I started the game and loaded 1.civ5sav. The save loaded without crashing. I then played to the next turn and still didn't get a crash. I then restarted civ5 and loaded game 2-final.civ5sav. Again, no crash after the initial load or playing to the next turn.

I next started the game and loaded some other file. I then loaded 1.civ5sav in game. The result was the same: no crash initially or after playing to the next turn. I then loaded game 2-final.civ5sav in game. Still no crashes as before.

I'm running patch 1.0.0.20 (but see Note below). My dxdiag.txt file is attached. My system supports DX9 only. Thinking about why these saves don't crash on my system, I wonder if it has to do with my video settings. The game automatically gave me fairly conservative settings. I've attached a screenshot of my settings, in case anyone wants see if they help.

Note: After I ran my tests, but before I made this post, there was a Steam update for Civ5. The version number didn't change. It appears that the only change was a patch for the Spanish-language version, but those who had crashes may want to check to see if they still crash.

New patch tonight didn't address this issue for old saved games.

FWIW, two event log errors for the price of one with my old save

Faulting application CivilizationV_DX11.exe, version 1.0.0.20, time stamp 0x4ca37045, faulting module CvGameCoreDLLFinal Release.dll, version 3.0.3.0, time stamp 0x4c9c5f39, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0007e109, process id 0x11f8, application start time 0x01cb610d70ea8518.

Faulting application CivilizationV_DX11.exe, version 1.0.0.20, time stamp 0x4ca37045, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03824, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000535c0, process id 0x11f8, application start time 0x01cb610d70ea8518.

Now I started a new game... save file size is bigger but tried loading, saving, loading, etc a non bloated save file and it was fine. So my hunch is old saves are kaput... shame but them's the breaks

System dependent bugs are always evil.
At the moment i would not be supprised if -PET- was running Win 7 64.
-> -PET-, system specs please.
