What if civilization next expansions introduce mechanics that actually reflects the evolution of human civilization throughout times? Instead of choosing specific and permanent civ that represent us from the dawn of time to the end, we rather choose generalize civ that will evolve in times. Like for instance, you select English civ then you begin with unidentified civ then over the course of time, as your city grow and spread, evolves into Romano-english then into anglo-saxon again into norman. In the later era, funally evolves into Great Britain. Other example:

    Arabia – Assyrian – Cananite – Abrahamic –ismaelite – adnanites – nabateian - ghazanites – modern-arabia
    Note: not in exact order

China – xia – shang or ying – Qin – Han- Tang – Song – Ming – Manchu- republic of china – people republic of china
    Note: some are dynasty names

Egypt – Badarian – Amratian – Gerzean – Naqadian – Menesian – Pharaonic – saite or saitian – Ptolemaic – Fatimid – Republic of Egypt
Note: barati, amrate, gerzean and nagadian tribes existed in the same period, not exactly predated one another. Menes was actually a historian name.

    France – gaul – Gallo-Romano – Franks - Merovingian – Carolingian – France republic
Note: france merovingian and Carolingian are not exactly a tribes but dynasties as I couldn’t think of any tribes that represent the era prior to france revolution.

These are more of hypothetical origin of partial list of civilizations, just to give you guys a glimpse or pattern on how evolution of civs would be. You can supply or add tribes your favorite or your own countries civilization originated. We can also add scenario that trigger changes of empire name like pops we acquired from ruins. :king:

Other than for flavour, I don't really see the point of this. In combination with some sort of overhaul of the culture and social policy system (which I probably wouldn't be in favour of), there may be a point, but otherwise it's just an aesthetic difference. And one that would result in odd progressions a lot of the time. Would screw with the whole interact with other individual leaders thing.

What if there is a large "Tree" of civilization boasts/names? For example, I start as Latins: First of immediate neighbors to find Iron Working! I get the name Roman Republic and get unique unit Legion. Wow! Conquered 2 capitals! I get Roman empire with a policy change and can convert barbarian units with money. Oh no! I ran out of money! they turn back to barbs and raid me. then I finish the Piety tree and turn into Papal states, and take over the Christian religion. so on and so forth.

Doesn't have to go this way, of course. If Venice isn't here, early discovery of various sea tech can turn the Latin tribes into a Venetian sea empire. If they were a little late, they become varous Lombard Kingdoms, for example.

So that might work for the Roman Empire, but what about the Aztecs? Or Siam? There's going to be a lack of acceptable continuity for pretty much every single civilization somewhere along the line.

    Aztecs?

    Start as Mixtec tribes.
If achieves Cultural achievements, evolve into Olmec Chiefdoms, then Yutec City states
If achieves military achievements, evolve into Toltec and Tenotecs.

then what would be the point of actually CHOSING a civ?
what this meens it that there must be no actual civ...its apearence determined by surten circumstances....and this is by far useless for civilization V.Maybe in other games..but not this one.

I know, but would be pretty cool in another game. A civilization advance tree: acomplish certain goals and get certain boasts and unique for every civilization!

    Latin Tribes
(Early Iron Working (faster than X%)) Republic of Rome, + Legion Unique Promotion (1 weak ranged attack? I don't know)
(Medium Iron working) United Senate of Rome (If rome conquered slower w/o as fast as Iron Working, then they would have a stronger provicne system)
So on and so forth, with different bonus for each, and maybe have 30 or so, and only the basic ones unlocked, and a 50% for others to be unlocked. And you can't see them! You just tech along and find that, as America, getting Communism first makes the United Soviet States of America. :D

Historically, "progress" and "advancement" don't work that way. There's no clear succession from "Mixtec" to "Olmec" or "Toltec" to "Aztec".

    This.

    Also this.

Civ is a game of "what-ifs". It's not a historical simulation.

I know. Exactly. I just gave an example of how it might work in another game.

I had a similar idea to this, but it involved Civ splitting and merging throughout the game.

Merging would be done by the capture and/or annexation of cities, but splitting would occur if an unhappy Civ loses it's capital, thus causing it to split into an eastern block and western block. For example, England could split into Scotland, Canada, Australia or something (if they ever decide to add the commonwealth realms to Civ.)

I don't know exactly how it would work, but something along those lines.
