Mere moments ago, I was at work. Some unattended kid was running amok, as usual (For those of you who don't remember, I work at a library). My boss finally gets up the nerve to say something. The kid looked to at least be in middle school. This is the exact exchange of words.

Boss: Excuse me, you're going to need to stop running in here.

Kid: I didn't even do nothing!

B: I saw you, now you need to stop doing that or leave. If you want to run around you can do it outside.

K: I wasn't even doing nothing! Why you being racist to me?

(The kid looked Hispanic to me)

B: I'm not going to go there with you, now just please stop.

K: Fine, just be racist to Spainish people. You falsley accuse me 'cause I'm Spainish. Just 'cause I'm Spainish you just be racist to me.

(The fact that the kid refered to himself as Spainish shows how dumb he really is, but that's not the point. I also don't know where he learned the phrase "falsley accused")

At this point, the kid had calmed down anyway, and so my boss just sort of threw up her arms and walked away.

At this point I'm telling myself, "this is going on the blog." Except I don't have a blog, so I'm putting it here on CFC.

Is this what you call reverse racism? If it were up to me, that kid would have been out on his ass 45 minutes ago, but it isn't my job to say who comes and goes. I also know that there was nothing I could have said to that kid that would have made any difference. Understand, these kids are pretty much just left here after school by their parents, who use the library as a babysitters. They don't have the proper upbringing, and there's really not much any of us can do.

I just don't understand. How is that fair? This kid gets off scot free by making a wild accusation of racism? That kid can probably use that same excuse anywhere he goes. IT'S NOT RIGHT, PEOPLE!! IT'S NOT RIGHT!!

It's not right. But it's not something that's unexpected either. Payback is a female dog.

Payback is a female dog.

I'm not too sure what you mean by that. I'm not doing anything. Are you talking about karma?

It's not reverse racism, it's a typical kid exploiting the system of authority.

It is reverse racism (equivalent to racism), and I would freely accuse him of racism if I wasn't bogged down by working at the time it was happening. I would even use that (racism) as a basis for asking him to be removed from the library.

Karma is a good way to say it. What goes around comes around. It's not your fault, but whites having acted with racism, it has to be expected that it would be turned back against them.

Oh God! I have a great idea. Whenever a European-American (ok fine, white person) does something I would rather they not, I'm going to shout "Stop being so damned racist against white people!" And then rant on about how we had to endure the slave conditions of serfdom under the horrid white man's rule, and state how the horrid white man slaughtered off tens of millions of people in there World Wars of genocide against my people. If its at school I can mention them damn whites hatin' on the minorities since at my school the white people are the minority (about ~15%, the majority being Asian, ~70%). I could also say that it took us thousands years to finally get the vote, and that the average white person gets paid a thousandth what those corrupt white men at the top get. To finish it off "I'm sick of you racist bastards, now give me the remote."

If that were my kid he would have been in front of your boss apologizeing and begging forgiveness. Then he wouldn't see the outside of my house for atleast a couple months.

Kids are idiots. Your boss probably should have been more explicit in telling the kid what he was doing wrong. however She also shouldn't have used 'or leave.' Regardless, the kid did sound deft as hell. Poor parenting, esse.

Children who make noise at the library should be publicly flogged. And their parents should be stretched out beside them.

I agree with this 100%. But why stop with children? I suggest we remove the neck of anyone thinking it's "cool" to talk on the cell phone when everyone else is clearly trying to freaking study.

It's a F'd up world we live in, where people do not expect to be held accountable for their actions and use racism as a crutch to blame other people for their misfortune.

Let me make one thing clear: The place where I live is a pretty sheltered community. I doubt this kid has expirienced any kind of discrimination. He used it as an excuse to act out.

I said in my original post: Any grownup responsible for this kid was nowhere to be found. Kids like these (which isn't all of them, some are just fine) are usually just either dropped off at or told to wait at the library until someone comes and gets them, which sometimes doesn't happen at all. It's downright neglectful. A lot of these kids don't have anywhere else to go, and it's either here or the alley, but it doesn't excuse thier behavior at all. Basically, the only people arround to discipline the kids are the library staff, and the kids are pretty wise to the idea that pretty much nothing can be done to them.

How so, and why?

It's a kid. They'll say anything to get out of trouble. Affirmative Action, Diversity Quotas, you've got more to worry about.

Oh and "sheltered" people are not immune from racism. Not by a long shot.

But he learned the behavior. Because the behavior is becoming common. Even Oprah has been accused of doing it.

I don't know how to teach them that the behavior is wrong. It is, but just saying that isn't gonna stop it from happening.

My original post was just that this is not a surprising development.

When people are treated bad, they turn out bad. That applies to groups as well as individuals, because it is a learned behavior.
