    Mr House

    Strengths:

    Weaknesses:

    Uniques Qualities:

So far the Kind of Unique qualities I see coming out of the New Vegas Faction would be:

    Growth/Food Negative:
Because of his policy of 'Super Rich Only'. He will have much smaller population cities than the other factions.

    Poor Human War Machine:
So he is going to be able to produce less human fighters, because his pop. is low/slow.
They will also in some way be weaker than most others due to a lack of motivation and loyalty, maybe incurring extra costs or some such as well, owing to the need to 'encourage' their cooperation.
His Human Fighters will also probably be more focussed on the DOps side, as they are mostly 'Legitimate Businessman'...Cough...cough..

    Improved Robotic War Machine:
The Securitron Mk2 was always ear marked by us to become a House unique unit, so they will have that.
Robots will also be easier to build/acquire by them.
Things like requiring a lower minimum population to build them.
If he is the Science/Industrialist/Software Developer type, he will probably also have some good unique robot boosting buildings that will see his robots are better trained than average, as well as probably some kind of production boosts to robots, either with a unique civic(if we get that modcomp working) or through unique buildings.

    'Legitimate Business Partners':
So he will have some stuff that links in with the eventual criminal elements of the game that I want to bring in, the big difference between Vegas and Reno will be Defensive Vs Offensive.
Vegas is more interested in simply 'keeping the strip' business is booming and the money comes to them.
The Reno's would be more expansive in their designs.
(After all they invented Jet for this purpose)

    Tourism and High Rollers:
The Strip will have access to a host of special high end tourist facilities, Casinoes, Restaurants and Hotels. I am thinking I will probably add a specialist type like a 'High Roller' that Vegas will have an almost exclusive access to.
These guys will generate lots of money, and again will probably recieve some benefits from some Unique Vegas Civics.

    Mr House
(So cool he needed his own thread if you ask clanky)

Seems to me it would be more appropriate to have New Vegas be one super city and his others be smaller cities (Maybe not even be able to found new cities past the first). In the game he doesn't own any land outside of New Vegas and I cant see him expanding, he just sits back and lets everyone come to him.

Perhaps he could be focused on rebuilding New Vegas at first the stuff he did before the events of the game then once that's done attracting people to Vegas to make money then finally using that money for his space plans though im not sure what this would achieve in game spaceship victory maybe?

For unique buildings I think the different casinos could be cool. They could be national wonders available at different techs and let you build or recruit units appropriate to that casino.

Just ideas anyway I can throw more in if you want. Quite fun thinking about this stuff

    Absolutely Micky, Fire away!

Having people discussing the various factions and ideas is great for building up interest and helping me move my ideas from 'sort of something kind of like this' to 'that gives them 4 hammers when building pig farms'.

In FFH 2 there was a faction that could only build (I think 4) cities, but they could have the 3 fat cross, where eveyone else only got 2 fat cross.

We will have the 3 fat cross system available in A5, and we are talking about the possibilities for limiting this ability in different ways, rather than simply being available at a certain culture level.

One of these could be that Houses Hidey hole unlocks this ability for his city, or is the prereq for the 4 Casinoes, so New Vegas will be this massive power house of a city, but any other city will be much weaker and lack a lot of the general specialisations that many other factions have, so if you want to expand as The Strip, it is very hard to keep it all viable.

This would again lend itself to the contrast between New Reno and New Vegas, Reno is more Aggression/Expansion and Vegas is more Defensive/Consolidation.

That would lead to an interesting contrast between two similar 'criminalised' factions.

Have you looked in the other faction sections, the last couple of days I have been doing a lot of 'wiki trawling' for unique concepts for all the factions, to help me build up thoughts on how they can be different and in what ways.

Or are you only really 'in to' The Vegas Strip as a faction?

It could also be that the vegas faction has lots of buildings that 'buy' bonus resources, these buildings would cost a lot of upkeep, but would give Vegas a stream and supply of various bonus resources without actually controlling any.

This cost would be offset by the Service Industries of Vegas, like Casino, Hotels and Restaurants, that would bring in additional revenue from bonus resources.

We could even go all out and make it that Vegas has no Settler Unit, and are completely dependent on the power of New Vegas.

That would certainly give them a Unique Play style.

I think having a super citystate faction is a great idea. In a world as rich as Fallout, diversity in play style is really important and I think this would fill a really fun niche.

Yes, as soon as I thought about it, I thought it could be a really interesting difference, both from gameplay and thinking of designs that are balanced..

Mr.House didn't expand at first because he couldn't. He had maybe less than 100 Securitrons at the most in the Lucky 38, considering how many he talks about having lost during exploration I assume he had more than a few dozen. That is an impressive amount of manpower but if he tried to push outside of New Vegas he would have left his relatively small private army stretched too thin.

If you side with Mr.House in the end credits it does actually talk about him annexing a few settlements outside of New Vegas. Specifically Primm, and at least part of Freeside.

He knew his army wasn't big enough so he just turtled until he could spam
    activate an army of Securitrons.

Yeah, I think the progression of this faction would be the super city with an end game aggressive 'push'.

When you get access to things like mass produced Securitrons, and various bonuses to their production, perhaps even auto spawner improvements.

until then you have to amass wealth to pay for and purchase everything you need to develop and one day expand.

you could also give them a unique worker that has some unique terrain upgrades, ie rather than cottages to hamlets to towns, have them pubs to casino's to Grand casino's, they make less food and hammers but as an offset produce more gold.
you could go further with other sort of things like solar energy farms that supply electricity to the local city ( dependant on the tile being worked) it gives clean energy without being like a coal plant and causing sickness)

the pub improvement line could work, I like that.

the solar farms would need to be a building though as improvements can't do that.

Mr houses entire operations was based on defence his securitrons were in place pre war just not activated as he was waiting for that platnium chip his manipulation of the 3 casino families is also based on their mutual want for territory within the safety of the strip . maybe to show that give him a bonus for defence,

also have a special event chain that if they choose the cannibal option that house moves towards favouring the white glove society.

the event where he gets thrown in jail and executed could start leading house to work with the Omerta's.

and the event that leads to defending ssteve more associated with the chairmen

Yes, I do think House will be more defence focus, at one point we floated the idea of his faction only being the one super city that cannot found new settlements. This would make their playstyle unique, we would just have to make sure that it is fun too.

We can have unique faction stories (I think) so having a set of stories that look at favouring one gang faction over the others should be possible.

As far as I know Mr House remained fairly in relations with the 3 strip families(gangs). They all knew who was in charge and for the most part never, directly, challenged his rule. However both the omertas and the white glove society can either be assisted in or convinced, respectively, to aid Caesar's Legion when they inevitably come marching into New Vegas. If you side with Mr House he even tasks you with breaking up the Omerta's shady, and honestly fairly destructive, plans.

Apparently the only faction that Mr House actually kind of trusted were the Chairmen. It is implied ingame that Mr House had originally intended to task Benny or some of the chairmen in general with the various tasks he assigns the player to. But then Benny betrayed him and he was kind of further isolated at that point.

Interesting. I definately think that something about the House gameplay will involve perhaps choosing a gang to favour, or perhaps they will be connecte to civic choices in some way, or your chosen gang effects the civics in different ways.

Whatever it ends up being, there is clearly an oppurtunity to make this gang interplay something interesting for the House plaayer to interact with eventually.

Right now I really need to focus on getting the basic civic/trait content done. It is such a big task I am getting really stuck with it!
