Failing to start Game

I have the steam version of the game, and when I try and run the game on DirectX9 a black box pops up and disappears. Then nothing happens. I have tried many other recommendations elsewhere and they didn't work, any ideas.

I'm just above the minimum requirments with Directx9.

I have already tried activating window mode, and disabling opening video

Do you know what graphics card you are running? That is probably the reason it will not start.

Tried changing graphic cards, and it still isn't working. I'll check if it meets the reqs...

I have the same problem. Suddenly Civ5 won't start anymore. Nothing happens after selecting DirectX9... I have been playing the game since the release but never failed to start before.

Can you help me with this?

same here. I installed recently Univers Sandbox which changed something about Microsoft .Net Framework 4 but apparently this is not the problem.
Now I deleted Civ 5 and I am trying to reinstall it. Strange.

Later: now it works again, so re-installing repaired it.
