I have on several occasions had an ai offer to trade 240 g for one of my luxs and when I agree they say that is not good enough and I ask what will make it work they ask for a ridiculous amount of everything, understand they approached me not the other way around.

Generally, what seems to happen is that you had a prior trade agreement in place for 240. Then they come back with the same offer, but perhaps something has changed in your diplomatic status, so that is no longer acceptable. It is a bit buggy that they seem to be offering the original deal, but then they change. But I think that is what is happening.

That happens to me with open borders too. They offer even Steven but then say it's not good enough. I've had it happen in my favor already when relations have improved too. That's why I usually just rebuild the trade and see what they offer or want.

If you look closely at the text at the top of the trade screen when the AI presents your old deal, the AI is saying that the old deal "has faded" in their eyes and that you will have to contribute more from your side to renew the trade.

I usually look at what they will take. if it's the next level down i.e say 209 gold or some combination of gold and gpt that gets close to 240 then I will trade. if not scrww em and go find someone else to buy it.

This usually happens later on to me on King and I generally don't care as I am making more gold than I can use anyway or they are my next "city supplying partner" so it was only a matter of time before they would not trade with me anyway. I find the AI quite prescient in this regard :mischief:
