Give me a copper and I am happy. Put some nerve gas on it, make it elite, and watching it kill 8-10 units in a single turn. Go baby go. The only downfall is it can not have probe equipement on it. Just think about subverting 6 ubits in a sigle turn with one probe team. Oh well.

I like ALL of them. Each is useful to me. Except, to be honest, I don't use very many naval units. One of my favorite custom units is a secure drop rover probe team. I make drop Behemoths, too.

I really couldn't say that I like any particular unit type more than the others, I like 'em all! I always find use for almost each separate type of unit, further or later. My "armory" if various designs always seems to grow too almost unhandleable numbers in the end. Admittedly I use the naval units a lot less than I do others, but that does not mean I have less designs there. Submerged ships, naval probes etc.

But if I have to narrow it down to one it'd be most likely be the various land units, rovers aside. Infantry always makes up the bulk of my army, both for defensive and offensive purposes. Though beefed up 'copters can be terror for the one on the wrong side of their guns they are too easily thwarted by those vicious AAA units. :scan:

I really enjoy those moments where there is a need to develop/organised a combined ops group to take a piece of territory or to colonise the Manifold Nexus or to take advantage of a desirable set of resources. When I first played SMAC, I used to get off on sending two-three naval units on an exploration 'gun-boat' diplomacy tour of Planet.

The Pirates have changed things a bit -- they're very annoying when opposed to my faction of choice. However, it is really cool to build Marine Detachment units and go around 'stealing' other folks' ships and sea formers.

Gotta agree with Sukenis on this, copters RULE. Don't ya just love it when Yang sends over all his needlejets to give your SAM choppers some target practice? :spank:

Second fave: drop pods /w Space Elevator.

It's always fun to use a blended force of Locusts, Hovertanks and gravships. For some naval power it's also practic to have some cruisers to take opponents sea bases.

And the Worm-units are also quite mad..

Hell, I like ALL the units!!!

My Favourtie is a Clean Drop HoverTank, especially if you have the Space Elevator. its just soo much fun. I stockpile these units, slowly build them up and then drop them and take over an alien civ's land bases in one turn.

Clearly the copters. With 2 or 3 of them I can free a whole faction of their units and make them open for my Rovers rolling in.

Has to be the 'copters. A good sized fleet of those can decimate entire empires when supported by drop-pod equipped ground troops. :D

I feel that a good mix of all units is best, so there are no blind spots or bad surprises when the enemy finally decides to go after me.

Otherwise it depends on the faction I'm playing.

If I'm a Gainans, then worms are cool.
If I'm a science faction of course I go straight for MMI.
If I'm Yang or Miriam, well, just overwhelm your opposition with higher numbers.

Don't really use naval units much, if I can avoid it, but they can be fun. Especially a sea-former working on enemy territority. :mischief:

Oh, I miss hover-tanks and missiles in your question.

Anyway, if I really have to decide, I'll choose copters. Copters are the key for an easy win. "Death from above."

To bad that the AI doesn't really know how to use them correctly and often lets them stay in the open because of short fuel.

I gotta go with my terra-speeder.

Build terrain improvements and roads quicker.

Basically a turbo terraformer.

VRRRMMMMOOOOOMM...

That's a hard one. I like the copters, but I also like designing my own land units. One thing I like a lot, and often miss in CIV2 and 3 is the posibility to improve ocean squares, so i like the sea-terraformers. But for military purposes i often go with lots of aircrafts and a couple of land units.

I like the isle of the deep for overall utility. Transport. Combat. SeaPod-Popping. It does it all

rovers are so fast!

It all depends what I'm trying to do. I have speeder terraformers (and, later, hover terraformers). I like to build small foils to explore the oceans (if I'm the Pirates, then I have lots of naval units). I like helicopters because of the multiple attacks. Probes can be very useful.

There are only a few units I don't build, because I can find almost every unit useful for something.
