Fave sandwhiches.

um, slightly wierd but melted cheddar, hard-boiled egg and cucumbers with salad cream.

YUM

- one Hebrew National beef frank, cooked, sliced length-wise, then in half
- two slices of toasted Catalina bread by Roman Meal
- mayo
- sweet pickel relish

= heaven in the form of crude childhood inventions.

For meats, I prefer roast beef, salami, pastrami, chicken, or turkey.

For cheese, pretty much any real cheese will do. Plastic artificial 'cheez' like Kraft makes will not.

For vegetables, I can really only stand lettuce and onions, though as soon as I say that I get a great urge to try putting leeks on my next sandwich.

For condiments, mustard. By which I mean real mustard. I cannot stand that squeezy yellow crap that tries to call itself mustard. Real mustard comes in a small jar and must be spread on with a knife. I also am a big fan of vinegar.

All of the above does not have to go on the same sandwich, of course, but whatever ingredients I use, I must put them on a roll or bun of some kind. My favorite is the kaiser roll or a hoagie that you have to cut open first. Wonder bread is for toast only. To use it for a sandwich would be like drinking a fine cognac out of a styrofoam cup.

A monte cristo is also a wonderful thing, and I'm glad I'm not the first to mention it. I also admit to a weakness for Subway. I usually get the cold cut trio, or whatever they call it, but their new southwest chipotle steak is rather nice. It is not, however, hot. When I get that particular sandwich, I don't eat it right away. I take it home first and add a generous amount of my own personal chipotle sauce.

Pastrami with sharp cheddar cheese, tomato and a little lettuce, on a kaiser roll. Kosher dill pickle on the side. Washed down with Newcastle Brown Ale.

Clubhouse: Chicken(or Turkey), lettuce, tomato, bacon, and mayonaise on toasted white bread.

Peanut Butter and Jelly. (or alternately, substitute honey)

To be honest, that's the only type of sandwich I like.
Would you believe I ate that almost every day, straight through middle and high school?

First Watch has a wonderful Reuben sandwhich. The corned beef is awesome! I've had some great Reubens in my time, but this is the best. www.firstwatch.com They are sprinkled around the US.

Mostly my favorite sammiches are the ones I do myself. Tuna melt, grilled cheese, GC w/ bacon. . . I like buying cold cuts and making my own that way.

I'll put almost anything between two pieces of bread. . . foodwise, that is.

Aged chedder, tomato and lettuce with pepper and a bit of salt.

The butter goes on the outside of the bread and then you toast it. Golden and crispy yet soft and melty :)

I have recently become convinced that the Cubano is the greatest sandwich ever created. Roast pork, bacon, gherkins and dijon mustard. What more does a person need. Does anybody know if they actually eat Cubano Sandwiches in Cuba and if so what they are called?

How could I forget to mention el sandwiche cubano? If you like that one try a Media Noche. Its like the cuban sandwich except its made with a sweet bread. A little mojito on it and youre in sandwich heaven. Dont know what they call it in Cuba, thats a good question, Ive only heard it called a sandwiche cubano. Another great cuban sandwich type of item: dulce guyava con queso de crema between two biscuits or crackers.

Bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich) shops are multiplying in my town. These cater to the pedestrian, and seem wholly removed from the competing pho (Vietnamese soup) diners.

You can see the French influence:

SANDWICH
1 French baguette, cut in thirds then halved part way through
1 cup pork pate preferably pate de campagne
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground cloves
2 tbsp peanut oil
3 shallot, chopped
3 garlic, clove, minced
1 lb. lean ground pork
2 tbsp Thai fish sauce
1 tbsp fresh ginger
2 1/2 tbsp tamarind paste
brown sugar
salt
freshly cracked black pepper
1/2 cup unsalted roasted peanuts, chopped
1 head Boston lettuce
1 cup coriander, leaves, stems removed
1/2 lb. cured and cooked ham, not smoked, sliced, thinly

PICKLED GARNISH
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup rice vinegar
1 cup water
1 1/2 cup carrot, fine, julienne cut
1 cup daikon, julienned

Full recipe here.

There's also a Chinese knockoff bahn mi (in Vancouver), buyer beware.

I tried one of those after watching an episode of the Brady Bunch. Yuck! Jam should only be eaten on toast or scones!

delsully, you'll notice i said the cap and cheese not the steak and cheese.

pirate, if you're ever in Fort Lauterdale a yinzer expat opened up a Primanti's there. food is almost as good as home, especially during spring break when you're drunk as hell. also theres a Primati's rip-off in Cleveland called Pomonis or something like that.

Simple. It's gotta be grilled cheese with HP sauce on the side.

All of these different sandwiches mentioned in here are making me very hungry. When I get home from work I will have not one, but TWO grilled cheese sandwiches. Mmmmmmmmmmmm!

Roast Beef and salami with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mayo and mustard, Port Salut cheese, and vinegar and oil. Maybe dill pickles too. On a hoagie roll, of course. A real, hard-crusted one, not those soft things that subway tries to pass off as rolls.
