Lindsay Vance, I suppose. Haven't really thought about it before.

    Dusty Springfield, easily.

But it's definitely a personal taste decision. I hate to use the term "objectively" at the best of times, but more so when discussing music.

I would suggest that "objectively" Dusty and Elvis are the 2 greatest white pop vocalists in history, Elvis the greatest including black singers even, but I can't say that makes her clearly a greater artist than some of the other giants in the poll. I just dig her.

My best friend's brother is married to her sister. We went to the wedding in Ireland and the whole Enya clan was there and sang together.

PJ Harvey. Great albums in the 90s, 00s and 10s. Not too many artists can say they had great albums across 3 decades...

Probably Janelle Monáe actually. Maybe Beth Ditto or Debbie Harry.

Also, Amaral, a Zaragoza pop/rock musician.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Grace Slick yet.

I chose Nina Simone because of "Wild is the Wind" and "Sinnerman", and also cuz of a video on youtube of her shouting at someone to sit down when they tried to leave while she was singing one of her songs.

But I would have chosen Emmylou Harris if she was on the list.

My favourite is either Ellie Goulding or the main singer of La Roux.

Of those in the list, Kate Bush. My overall favourite female musician is probably Imogen Heap, with honourable mentions to Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo from Ladytron.
