Akira Kurosawa

After him that guy who composed music for Silent Hill.

The guy on 10,000 Yen notes.

Does Lafcadio Hearn count?

probably not, since he was of another nationality and only changed his name after gaining japanese citizenship.

Toshiro Mifune.
His portrayal of Lord Toranaga in Shogun was brilliant! :)

David Suzuki, for he is an almost mythic creature -- nay, a protector, a guardian -- of righteousness and green things.
I see somebody beat me to my favorite! :D

Honorable mentions to George Takei, Yoko Shimada (Lady Mariko in Shogun), and Midori Ito (who should have won the Ladies' Singles figure skating competition at the Calgary Olympics in 1988).

Kazushi Sakuraba, one of the first true MMA fighters and a groundbreaker in the sport I like most!

Hideo Kojima.

I don't like the Japanese because of anime.

ps. Being the master of the haiku? Isn't that like mastering pissing into a toilet.

I don't get why people obsess over anime so much. People hate it or love it. Those who hate are usually over zealous in their hate too, which is just as obsessive.

It seems just like any other animated stuff to me, it's just that they produce a lot of it and it's not just directed at kids.

Ecofarm, there are much better reasons not to like the Japanese.

I would have loved to vote for Kurosawa, and I considered Miyazaki, and Uematsu has some good music...

...but I'm a novel writer wannabe, and that makes things considerably easier; I couldn't possibly vote against one of the most illustrious forerunners of modern novel writing. Lady Murasaki it is :-D
