Not quite there yet...
Judging by its timbre.

For me, it's the contra-bassoon, followed pretty closely by the electric bass.

Also, the theramin is not included because everyone loves the theramin, so pick something else. :)

POLL ON THE WAY UP.

New rule! Say why! You know if you have a reason. Even better, give an example you think best illustrates why your instrument is so great.

I play the trombone myself, so that one gets a vote, although I do enjoy a good bass or fiddle, and the harmonica.

I voted for electric guitar, since i play it. But i love the piano and violin as well.
Do you play those, too? Man I envy you, my hands are too small to play most instruments.

Ah I forgot the harmonica, that's pretty bangin'.

And do you mean stand-up bass?

They're just so ridiculous :D. It's bigger than he is! I love Tubas

Hah, the hat really brings it all together.

But I said by timbre, not appearance. :nono:

EDIT: RedDoor is the most indecisive person I've ever encountered.

Mark Knopfler regrets not learning to play the guitar. (Or the drums for that matter, but I forgot to vote for those.)

Huh? He plays the guitar, doesn't he?

  • Distorted electric guitar
  • String ensemble
  • Any bowed string instrument with the same body shape as a violin (are they called the violin family?)
  • Electric bass
  • French horn
  • and a few others

The timbre of a string ensemble (for example, the sound you hear on classical music CDs played by a bunch of string instruments together) is the sweetest instrument sound there is, in my opinion. Too bad no single instrument makes that sound. A violin surely doesn't.

Euphonium. I played one in high school and enjoyed it. :D I still have fantasies of playing Bonnie Tyler's Faster Than the Speed of Night on a euphonium.

I love guitar (both electric and not) and maracas.

Distorted electric guitar and clarinet. But I have very odd tastes in music. My favourite instrument I own is a guitar I've stripped down, unable to stay in tune, played through an old mid-90s amp that I tore with a knife. It's a disgusting sound and I love it.

And I like playing that with a gentle / soft over lay of wind instruments, held together by a driving bass line and primal drum kit work.

edit: I also love, only slightly less, my father's acoustic that the instrument itself is a work of art. It creates such a beautiful sound without even trying.

Harp and oboe, with bassoon, flute, cello, and string bass coming in second.
