Well, Gene's original intention was to make him a girl "Leslie Crusher". I suspect most people here wouldn't have objected to having a cute female on the cast in spite of any dorkiness ;).

Say what you will about Wes, he got to kiss Ashley Judd in a star trek uniform. None of you have ever gotten to do that, so... yeah.

The actor certainly made himself unpopular with the rest of the crew.

Never heard about that. To me he seems like a nice guy.

Probably not that bad. His character was hated, he was a kid, he got some behavior problems out of the pressure. I think he grew out of it. But his career has been kind of weak since then.

Yeah I remember that Marina Sirtis referred to Wesley derogatorily as "the kid" in an interview.
(through one of those Redlettermedia reviews of the TNG movies)

    Oh and:

Elim Garak: Lying is a skill like any other, and if you want to maintain a level of excellence you have to practice constantly.
    Worf: Practice on someone else.
Elim Garak: Mr. Worf, you're no fun at all.
    Worf: Good!

My favorite quotation, from all the series, movies, games, and fiction, is, remains, and forever shall be below:

From "Who Mourns for Adonais", in which Kirk and company must fight a Greek god.

I am starting to really feel bad for the actor.
    You are all horrible.

    One of my faves:

Picard: Worf, are you familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan?

Worf: I have not met all of the new crew members...

I don't have the initiative to find the quoting at the moment, but I remember how it resonated with me every time I saw it. When Crusher wants to intervene and save a bunch of people, but Picard has to lecture her on the Prime Directive while denying her request.

    Really!?!

    Quark carried that show. :p

Garak had the charisma of an intelligent cat, studying you figuring out ways to screw you over.

I wouldn't call it my favourite quote but certainly the most memorable for me was at the end of the pilot episode, where Q reveals that Farpoint Station was a test for Picard, acting on behalf of all of humanity. Riker asks Picard how they should proceed, to which Picard responds that they will proceed exactly as normal: "If we're to be damned, let's be damned for who we really are."

That always stuck with me, both on a personal level, and within the Star Trek Universe. It said, "Look, we're Starfleet, and we do things by the book. We follow the rules, because the rules are all that's separating us from chaos we left behind -- the chaos that Q holds up as exemplar of human unworthiness. We don't know what's out there, and we don't have all the answers. But what we have are the rules, the institutions, the procedures and the ingenuity to overcome whatever they throw at us." It set the tone of the entire series for me.
