One does like the classics. There is nothing better than sitting down and reading 'The Prince', Aristophanes, Zola or Joyce, except maybe a spot of Gemmell or Fry. More fantasy than sci-fi, but don't read as much as I used to, mainly due to this darned site!
But one must concur with the judgement of many of the persons here on works of literary merit.
Catch-22 is very good, wrote a big paper on it once. The movie is quite nice too. The notion of Orr rowing to Sweden in a dinghy from the Med was excellent surreal and funny.

If you read too much Tom Clancy, your skin will turn orange in hue and erupt in the most remarkable pustules, you will get hairs on your palms, you will start getting IDEAS, you will get ...'eunuchized', and then you will finally notice that he hasn't written a good book for a while, and go back to Red Storm Rising.:crazyeyes
