The unit has to be both aesthetically appealing AND effective. For example, the Pitati Archer is a very effective unit, probably more so than the Eagle Warrior (both are very effective at their roles). But it doesn't look nearly as awesome and it doesn't have that cool "I turn my enemies into slaves" mechanic so I consider Eagle Warriors to be "superior" to Pitati.

In other words: Style counts (as does effectiveness). Which units make you smile when you use them?

My vote is for the Varu because there's nothing quite like overrunning your enemies with a pack of angry, snorting Pachyderms. The Varu has by far the best sound of any unit in the game AND it's incredibly effective (a cheap knight that you can get in the classical era).

Make a poll of non-unique units, too, please!
Since R&F my favourite unit (aesthetically and gameplay-wise) would be the Pike&Shot

Why is Redcoat on there twice?

    I voted Ship of Death.

I made a mistake and repeated some. Just vote for the first RedCoat.

I really enjoyed the Red Coats pre-2018 patch. You could amass a lot of them and they were useful right up until the Information era. Unfortunately, with England being gutted, I doubt I'll be using them much anymore.

I'm trying to be polite, but this poll is a bit of a fail.

The Samurai. I just love the sound they make with their katana when I gut my enemies...

Well, for what it's worth, im a fan of this topic, and think you did a great job, given the limitations of the polling option. Best solution would be to do two polls, including all civs, then a final one with those that got enough votes to fit the poll requirements. Would really help us narrow it down without all the crying about who was left out. After all, let's face it, everyone's worst is someone's favorite...

Definitely Varu and Eagle Warrior. Both very effective, aesthetically pleasing, and have an interesting mechanic.

Not sure on #3. I voted redcoat they are just a classic military unit and they are good in game, however they lost a bit of their appeal since the most recent (and dumb) England nerf. #3 is a toss up between Red Coat, Immortal, Cossack and Winged Hussar.

Korea's unit is cool too. Looks interesting and fits Korea's style perfectly. Turtle + early teching. Not being able to move+attack on same turn is much less of a disadvantage on defense than attacking

Berserker sound effect, unless it shares with another unit.

Samurai sound effect is so cool. But the most broken unit is the Minas Geraes

They have no lifespan. From a bad tech, must be hard-built, and worse than a Knight, which costs the same. Pure Rubbish.

I will go with the Varu because it is one of the few units that when gathered en masse actually makes me feel a spot of worry.

I added in a vote for the Ngao Mbeba, along with the Varu and the Eagle Warrior. It's an effective and well-themed unit.
