I'd like to pre-vote the Viking Berzerker as my favorite expansion UU (and I'm going on a developer shooting spree if they don't add them).

Cossack is underrated. Comes at a time where the AI doesn't have an answer for it for a good time. Get a couple of combat upgrades and you have a virtually perfect pre tank unit. Great for winning domination continent victories on Prince and Monarch.

Fast Workers are pretty useful in their own right. These guys work faster, meaning you can do the same work with less of these guys compared to regular workers. But the only drawback is, well, we have a lot of time.

I used quechuas and they're actually pretty useful in the early ages. People use a lot of archers for their defenses, and they're perfect for attacking them head on.

On huge maps, keshik rocks big time.

You can eliminate 3-4 Civs with it.

Keshik is okay against the AI , but still I find it too expensive. They are the best unit for pillaging , but need catapults to take a city.

Right now I'm playing the world map , as Egypt. Got rid of cyrus with War chariots , and taking over India with Elephants and catapults ( I got their holy shrine ! and everyone else is the same religion ) ....... My best ally is Genghis Khan ~ to domination we will go.

Praetorian - strong, good for rush, last long.
Fast worker is valiable only on maps with many jungles and hills. Cossack is good too.

Fast workers don't work faster, they only move on the map faster. Useful for chop rushing, clearing jungles and improving hills, pretty useless for everything else. Still a decent unit.

So far my experience ends up with three being far ahead of others:
-Praetorian. Duh. It's a wonderful unit.
-Conquistador. It's a knight with a bonus against melee - it can trash even pikemen. There's little that can stand against it, especially if you rush for guilds.
-Samurai. It fulfills the role of a maceman, but doubles as an archer for city defense and it overrides defending archers' first strikes, and it gets a free combat promotion due to the Japanese being agressive. A darn good unit.

Not to say the other UUs aren't good (except you, Mr. Jaguar Warrior), but these three can be absolutely game-defining. Some would posit the Immortals (whom I don't have much experience with yet), the Cho-Ko-Nu (which has never really been overwhelming for me), or the Quecha (which seems a bit cheap ;)), but I'll stick with the above three for now. I voted for the praetorian though.

It fulfills and eaisly surpasses the maceman role. City Raider Samurai are a beautiful sight against the AI. Due to the extra strikes, at a time when many civs still defend with longbows, a stack of Samurai and supporting catapults can take over the world. And by the time they have rifles, those same Samurai are city raider 3, combat 4+ and can keep right on conquering with catapults. Assuming you haven't already eliminated them.

I voted Samurai btw.

Praetorians get my "favorite overpowered uu" vote, though.

I'm surprised at the lack of votes for the Quechua. I haven't played all the civs yet (on my 4th game actually), but these guys are awesome in the game I'm playing. Super cheap, useful (scouts/defense/pillagers), & can reasonably attack archers even in cities as long as you're willing to throw a bunch into the battle.

What surprises me is that two people voted for jaguar! Probably just a joke.

The real joke is that one person voted for Navy SEAL.

i voted the fast worker, because its very useful in a non-combat win.

for combat, i would vote samurai. they are tough and they get +10% combat, and 2 first strikes garaunteed. so they can plow thru comprable macemen consistantly (also possesing +50% v melee). as oggums said, the catapult mix with these bad boys are unstoppable.

try maxing cities out with the theocracy, vassalage, barracks combo. thats +8 XP !!!(counting combat 10%)

praetorian = ball peen hammer on the noggin

Love my Cho-Ko-Nu. All those first strikes, especially when promoted. Very versatile. Defend cities, sentry on borders, escort attack stack and even attack cities. The first strikes are powerful even when fighting units with higher base strengths.

I avoid most early UU because they seem overpowered.

If I played multiplayer, I would surely have voted for something like Quechua, instead (probably Praets or Phalanx would get my vote, though).

Don't they also give collateral damage?

Yes, the collateral damage is what makes them truly deadly. Want to reduce an entire enemy attacking force to nothing? That impressive stack defending the city you want seem too tough? Toss a couple Cho-Ko-Nu at it and watch them wither away. I bring one catapult to reduce the city defenses and then just collateral damage the stack down to a big pile of red-lined wounded. Then you can mop up the remaining units and score a bunch of experience points for all your other units that may have otherwise been lost in battle. Highly recommended!
