Actually if you're going to run an SE, the Pyramids are a must have wonder. But I don't run an SE, so I almost ever build the Mids, cause they're way too expensive imo.
It was tough choosing between The Pyramids, Stonehenge, The Great Lighthouse and The Great Library.
I choose the last because it's always useful for both beakers and getting a great scientist. It's also pretty easy to get and I do in almost every game. Stonehenge is very handy if you're not creative but not necessary and I've been learning to live without the Pyramids, especially since I'm fonder of cottages than specialists. The Great Lighthouse is also very useful if there's lot of coastal sites but I don't get it very often. The poll is on what's my favourite wonder after all.
The Great Library is huge especially on higher difficulty. Also people underestimate the Spiral Minaret, it seems. That extra gold per temple/monastery funds a lot of units and research.
AP edges out UN. No other wonder has the LITERAL game-breaking potential of the apostolic palace. Combined with espionage, it can also be used to turn the world upside-down diplomatically...especially with spiritual civs the potential is quite crazy. Forced city flips, mass war declarations, etc. But, if those aren't possible, then you always have the ability to fall back on just WINNING with it outright . The only other wonder that can win the game for you outright is the UN, but while the restrictions for winning AP are tighter, they come earlier and tend to be easier to attain if you're good at planning.
Cristo redentor not here ?!. Don't build much wonders but if i can get my hands on that one i do so.
There is a difference between what i'd want and what i can get. GLH is on average probably the most powerful wonder, the one i build most is GL, sometimes with Parthenon.
