So what is it? I personally like artists, seeing as I'm a culture player. I do like having a city create great Merchants, to populate stagant cities with their food bonus. If you don't mind, tell us why you chose your Great Person.

Culture Bombs FTW. They are one of the few I go out of my way to utilize. Love Bombing those Border Cities. I saved up 5 Artists, sent them to a city that was pushing against a greek city, poped one. Then a few turns later the city revolted. Once i had the city 4 artist blew the city up and pushed an opening thru their borders making their Capital only a few tiles away from my soldiers.

After kicking my wonder building addiction I have to say Great Artists because when you're getting close to a culture victory they really come in handy.

Either Artists or Engineeers. Can't completely decide.

A few months back I saw a guy who could dominate the game by going after priests. I wouldn't know why artists would get much praise though.

    Engineers would be my vote.

Engineers are nice, but I love merchants! I either have them join my Wall Street City or perform a foreign trade mission. I usually save one for Sid's Sushi too.

    List by Liking:
Top spot: Engineer. Definately. They are the best settled and unsettled. By last game I focused so much on Engi's that I didn't get one Prophet even though I had settled Buddhism... whoops...
Second: Artist. Secondbest settled (especially with Repcivic and Sistine, but they do benefit all specialists...), :culture:boom rocks.
Third: Scientist. Their Research Academies simply are awesome. Their Bulbs are Ok, and they are fair enough settled.
Rest (in that order): Prophet, Merchant, General, Spy.

I voted for the General. The reason for that is that I have so many playing style and the only one that I always like is the general (yes, I do like the artist to).

The one that I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, hate is the prophet. Good in the early years, but when they popup after the reneassance era it's just anoying. Even though I micromanage my cities early on (trying to avoid, too many "prophet" points), they still popup every now and then during the late game.

I really wish that in the case of GP whose home country is in the game, they would be born there, i.e. if Russia is going to get a GG it should be Gheorghi Zhukov, England gets Shakespeare etc..

I've always - yes, long before obsolete's walkthroughs - been a big fan of Great Prophets, never understood why everyone hated them. I lightbulp extremly rarely and prefer to settle great persons. Prophets give nice extra cash to your Shrine/Wall Street city, particularly early in the game it can make a real difference, and they provide much needed production too. Especially with Angkor Wat.

Voted for great prophet, just to be contrary. Also, I tend to get many of them when I play builder games, and more great prophets = more religions = more shrines = more money. The number of religious buildings enabled leads to more priest specialists (and I like Angkor Wat - who needs engineers when you have 2 hammer priests?), which leads to more great prophets.

Great Prophets are pretty sweet. Of course, you need a couple great scientists for Academies. Merchants are ok when they pop, perfect to settle in those low food cities. I almost always finish or quit a game before the time of corps, so I don't rely on feeding my starved populace with Sushi.

Great generals are fantastic, but don't rely on gpp, so to me they belong in a separate category.

Engineers? Bah. Oooh, exciting, I get a wonder. Overrated.

Engineers, followed by one single prophet then generals. The occasional GM is handy...

Merchants, definitely. My biggest pain-in-the-butt is when I don't have enough cash to upgrade my army. So Merchants solve this. :)

After that, it'd be Generals (love that extra exp) and Engineers (great to rush Wonders I really want).

Imho all are good depending on other things, my first choice would be engineers, but as many pointed out, Angkor Wat and priest rocks, merchants and their money making are great, artists can make you win...

Can i say i like them all? well never popped a spy for now...

Probably, the engineer. Rush-building wonders, aside from pissing everyone who wasted dozens of turns building them, is so useful you can't go with anything else. xD
