If we got any civ with Jerusalem in it, it would have to be the ancient Hebrew state. And since this is a female rulers thread the only one I could think of is the pre-monarchial judge Deborah from the Bible.

I don't know if it would be controversial, but they were so short lived I can't see why bothering. (Melisende was a fascinating woman, though like CdM in the end her scheming failed.)

There's also Athaliah, for a particularly horrific option. :p You could pull a Theodora with Jezebel or Bathsheba/Abigail/Michal/pick-a-wife-of-David. :p If we're going with prophetesses, there's also Miriam (the first person in the Bible to be explicitly called a "prophet"--just a fun fact).

What's horrible about Athaliah, might I ask? :p

In that case there is a larger list to pick from Solomon's wives. :p
He would be my first pick anyway for a leader, if they would ever make it in.

She murdered her entire family except one toddler grandson who was hidden by a priest while she seized power? :p But other than murdering children, absolutely nothing. :p
Yeah, but David's wives have names*. :p My first choice would be Hezekiah or Josiah.

*Also, while 2 Kings indicts Solomon for being swayed by "Pharaoh's daughter," we can point to more specific policies affected by Bathsheba (who much like CdM maneuvered her son into power) and Michal. Shame Abigail doesn't get much screen time; she seemed rather clever.

Mmm. I just remembered Olga of Kiev. She would be a fun leader for the Kievan Rus.

When I first hear the name Abigail, I think of Abigail Adams.....:p I'm wasn't aware it was of Hebrew origin.

If America must have a female leader for some nonsensical reason, she gets my vote. :p But yeah, Abigail was one of King David's five wives. The most interesting of them, IMO, though I do feel a little sorry for Michal...

Deborah wouldn't be a bad choice for the Hebrews, If they do choose any of David's wives Bathsheba and Abigail would be my two choices

So Tamar of Georgia is now official.

I'm so disappointed by the negative backlash towards them. Also, does Armenia have any worthy female leaders?

What kind of backlash were you expecting? Another female or who cares about Georgia.....?

I was expecting both, but I'm still disappointed in some of the comments made on this forum. I can wait for the more "important" Civs a little longer.

How many 'important' civs are missing?

    Turks
    Portugal
    Inca
    Maya
    Ethiopia

    So 5?

Byzantium, which should have a female leader, is also not in it. Neither are the Celts.

Please, no. If Catherine the Great and Elizabeth can be retired, so can Theodora. Bring on the Medieval Byzantines.

Byzantium has options besides Theodora, however. Such as Zoë and Irene.

I'm not sure if either would be a good choice over the myriad of male emperors though.
