I've been playing around with creating new units and thought I'd share this one in case anyone finds it useful. This is a longswordsman with the head of a female settler. I gave her longer hair and a slightly more feminine figure in blender.

(It's definitely not perfect -- as you can see from the Nexus Viewer screenshot, the seams are prominent.

This happens with every new unit I create. Seems to be a problem with the GR2 file itself, not the DIFF as I've experimented using original game DIFFs and get the same result when using them with my new GR2's. If any of you can tell me how to fix this, I'll fix and re-upload.)

However, the unit looks a lot better at a smaller-scale in game (scale 0.25 in this screenshot) and I think it's still usable.

Edited to add: This is not a mod. Zip file contains fxsxml, gr2, DIFF and SREF.

Do you plan on doing any more female combat units? I could use a rather massive number of them for the mod I'm working on.

I have a use for female combatants as well; the only problem is finding source art that doesn't have them wearing a Princess Leia slave outfit... .

Did you have anything in particular that you need (type of armor, animations, etc.)? Let me know and I will see what I can find.

First of all, nice job! Definitely something in need.

Second, I am not certain what you are describing with regards to the seams; if it is a Civ IV unit then it is very low poly count and difficult to smooth the edges. One thing I have done to add slightly more complexity is to convert quads to tri's; this effect has varying success, however.

The pipe dream right now is to have a replacement for every type of humanoid combat unit so that I can have a R.E.D. modmod which changes all of my "Magical Girl" civilizations to be completely female.

But again, that's pipe dreaming and will come much further down the line. The things I could use much sooner are:

  • A witch or sorceress
  • A female rifleman or infantry unit, preferably with a skirt or dress
  • A female archer, also preferably with a skirt or dress
  • A variant of the above female swordsman, but with a cape

If you could find or convert anything like that for me, I would be incredibly grateful. (I'd say "I'll credit you in my mod," but I'm already going to do that since it will use that awesome Wraith model in its next update.)

Well, I do primarily fantasy units so I can't guarantee that I will get to anything that can't be used within that genre. But a sorceress is in the works, and if I can find female melee combatants wearing more than just panties I will gladly add those as well. If you come across any source art (3d models) that you like, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

There's a large number of units in this Civ 4 mod that caught my eye.

Actually, that author's whole page has caught my eye due to the sheer quantity of different female units available. I planned on setting out to convert a lot of those units myself, but it was going to wait until after a lot of the major coding of my mod was done. Any help I could get on those conversions prior to that point would be tremendously appreciated!

I also remembered that I could use a female missionary/prophet unit soon. This mod's missionary in the green robe (the one at the bottom-right of the preview image) would work nicely.

Great Job! I'll definitely be using this in Éa, plus any other female units (which we are badly lacking).

And I especially appreciate that she is wearing real plate mail rather than bikini plate mail. It's very hard to find that in any computer games.

I think I'm married to a female combatant! :p

In Civ 3, I had the female warrior as an even more basic unit than the (male) warrior. The female warrior had an attack of 0, but could defend at strength of 1. So while the men were out pillaging, the females could at least defend the city. With Civ 3's zone of control, female warriors were also useful as border guards. So to mod this for Civ 5, it would be similar: female warriors would be cheaper than scouts, could at least defend cities and block tiles.

So, I know I'm like half a year late for this but, well, I happen to know where to look for female warriors in realistic armour.

I also have actual historical pictures of female riflemen with skirts. History does have those things if you know where to look...

Pictures are great, but without readily available 3D models they are extremely difficult to build from scratch. I have found a good sorceress model, though, and although I can't build models from pictures I certainly can use them as reference. I think ultimately I will have to take the "bikini" warriors (of which there are many 3D models) and just overlay armor mesh from the male version, scaling it to fit the female model. I did this with some of my armored Orc models (i.e., borrowing armor mesh from other units) and it seems to work well.

Actually, if you ever do need armoured female models, here are a few;

They're probably fairly high poly though.

Agreed, they are very high-poly and likely best served as hero units. Given that CiV is a fairly old game now they may not actually be a problem with modern processors, for most users anyway. I have XNALara, so I can easily convert these if/when I am ambitious enough to do so. But it is summer and I have a girlfriend, so....you know lol! If you can wait until October, I will be pushing forward on a lot of stuff that I want to get done - and rigs like these are easy-peasy. I already have your Qunari units in my queue, so if you are a bit patient I promise to deliver.

*Audible gasp*

You have a life out side of modding? Why, I've never heard of such ridiculousness! :P

But in all seriousness, please take all the time you need. I just wanted to post them, just in case you ever could use them for something of your own. In fact, half of those i wouldn't really even be able to make use of for my own mod; I just figured a good reskin of them would serve as a good unit if anyone else needed it.
