ok, we got the two sides in Fanatica pinned down, one for a war of attrition and a gamble on Saltpeter, Medieval Infantry and horses and then the alternative is the sudden strike which will cost us pretty little now that we will mostly use soon obsolete units anyways.

Remember Immortals are upgradeable, not Ancient cavalry.

You know as well as me you never run an attrition warfare in CIV3 with less land against a growing and stronger opponent on more land. But call me an Embryon if you prefer.
I am 100 % convinced there will be a war, and you can just let our units like Ancient Cavalry and so on become obsolete.

I disagree entirely. My wars of attrition in civ3 have always been single player, but one thing is certain. I only fight them when I am the underdog. And I win, because they are slow wars of attrition.

And ancient cavalry only become obsolete against gunpowder cavalry.
