950BC
Vitoria founded. Now Spain has a port on the east coast.

825BC
Santander founded. Where are the Inca???

Asturias founded, it is unlikely that Spain will be able to move north anymore.

In Spain’s search to find the mysterious Inca, Spain’s brave Curragh comes across another species, the Korea. Spain’s science advisor is extatic at the fact they know the skills of Map Making yet are ignorant to Polytheism. That, and 50 gold sways Korea.

IBT- Sumerians begin work on the Hanging Garden.

775BC
Spanish sailors notice a light blue border to the south, just out of reach, the Inca??

IBT- Russia demands 75 gold. Isabella refuses immediately, Spain will NOT be bullied. Russia declare war.

730BC
Spain meets……… America. Sell them Polytheism for 140 gold

670BC
Jaen founded. Settler produced in Madrid. News also reaches Isabella that the ivory deposit has been set up. The Statue of Zeus is ordered to be constructed in Madrid. Due in 67 however that shall drop substantially once the capital grows

America has suddenly come into possession of Currency and Construction :hmm: how did they learn this? They had no money.

Sell Polytheism to the Iroquois for 70 gold to fund the purchasing of Construction from America (only civ that has it, everyone on the other continent has currency though) 1000 gold gets Construction-

Construction to Vikings for 150 gold
Construction to Sumeria for Philosophy, 100 gold and 1 gpt
Philosophy to America for 330 gold
Construction to Greece for Currency and 107 gold

Up 3 techs(Construction, Philosophy and Currency), total gold cost = minus 20gold (including 20 gold for pt agreement)

IBT- Ur completes the Temple of Artemis, Kyoto grabs the Great Wall on the rebound, Paris gets The Great Lighthouse.

630BC
Reshuffle of priorities, Seville (on TGL pre-build) switches to Zeus, due in 3, Madrid switches to barracks.

IBT- Moscow get the Mausoleum of Mausollos. In other news, Isabella is worried by rumours of a massive barbarian uprising near the city of Asturias

610BC Spain completes the research for Literature. Set on Codes of Law.

Trade CoL with Korea for Philo and 150 gold. Ship off CoL to the Vikings for 150 gold so Spain didn’t loose any money in that trade.

Korea have Feudalism but needless to say, won’t share.

Research is set to Engineering at minimum.

590BC
:hammer:

Logrono founded to the south.

470BC
First Ancient Cavalry produced. Such beautiful creatures.

Where are the Inca??

430BC
The Iroquois demand Literature. Spain will not be bullied. They declare.

Decide to build some embassies.

Sumeria – 3 Ediku Warriors, 1 Horseman, One resource connected (horse) one luxury (spice) temple and colosseum with 2 wonders (Colossus and Temple of Artemis) 80% science, 20 tax.
Vikings, 3 Spearmen and 1 settler. One resource connected (horse) one luxury (silks) Colosseum and 80/20 sci/tax
Reluctantly Celts- 5 Spearmen (expecting trouble are we??) no recourses and 1 luxury (ivory) temple, barracks and granary. 60/40 tax/sci

Valladolid founded.

IBT- French begin TGL.

Literature to Japan for 72 gold.

370BC
Palma founded

The Indians are discovered………. Still no Inca though. Are these people just a myth?? Sell the Indians Polytheism for 57 gold.

350BC
Finally!!! The Inca have been found. Kind of an anti-climax actually. They know Monarchy but nothing else.

170BC
Currency to the Vikings for Monarchy and 40 gold and begin a Revolt immediately. Spain will be a Monarchy and Elizabeth a Queen in 2 turns.

130BC
Spain becomes a Monarchy. Hail to the Queen Baby!!

70BC
A stack of 4 Russian warriors appear from the fog. Isabella needs to be reminded that Spain is still at war with Russia. Oops.

They are threatening the city of Asturias, 4 Ancient Cavalries are sent to deal with the situation.

IBT- China demand Literature, once again, just for the people at the back who didn’t hear me the first time, Spain will NOT BE BULLIED. They don’t declare (phew)

50BC- Russians attack Asturias, killing 1 Spearman and 2 warriors but the city is held by the last defender, a regular warrior who is promoted. Fortunately, the Ancient Cavalry is now in range.

30BC
All 4 warriors are wiped out. :hammer: gotta love AC’s. The AC’s are left in the city to discourage any more attacks. Begin planning for war on China.

10AD
Turn of a new Millennium. The Spanish Empire-

This is the Spanish Empire as of the turn of the new century. As is visible moving north is now only possible through conquest, the race to settle the south is on however there is a large number of barbarians situated there.

The Celts are top <grunt>

The mighty Spanish Army. The warriors are being stored in Barcelona waiting for iron to be connected up but I’m waiting as long as possible, I’ll have the money for it

The game is going pretty nicely stevie. How much of China are you going to try and take?

Looks good. You shouldn't take too long settling the south as the AI may send settlers on boats to claim land. The stretch of tundra could have an oil resource on it in the future so you want to shoot for that general area.

Also, do you think you have enough time/settlers to close the gap to your north east by placing a city just east of Asturias? My first instinct when I saw that gab was to claim it for myself. :)

But this looks like its going to be a kick ass game for you.

The main problem with the south atm is the fact that there are a huge amount of Barbarian horsemen roaming about down there, so I'd need to escort the settlers quite heavily. And thats not high on my list of priorities. The AI (China mainly, possibly the Vikings soon) will settler there and I'll rip them up

edit:

@biggamer132: all of it  over time, but in the first attack I'm gonna take as much as I can without over stretching my forces, the Chinese aren't to be taken lightly, I've had quite a few problems with them in the past. they can be......... unpredictable. and remember, I'm still at war with Russia

Good Story! Good luck against the Chinese!

big post, stick with me

=================
IBT- Oh, that’s odd. Iroquois and Korea sign an alliance against me………… and Scandinavia and Russia

30AD
In an effort to brush off the new alliances against Spain, an alliance is struck with the Sumerians against the Vikings, if they want to get to Spain, they have to get through them. 430 gold sways the Sumerians to take up arms.

IBT- Russians move 2 horsemen next to Spanish borders

50AD
China move a settler/spearman pair into Spanish territory, they are told to leave immediately.

IBT- The Chinese move further into Spanish lands, and another pair appears at the border. Isabella is not amused.

90AD
Bombard 2 Russian horsemen with Catapults and attack with Vet AC’s. Both Promote.

110AD
Isabella DEMANDS that China remove their forces. She even threatens them with war. Smartly, the agree and remove their troops…. But they shall return

This is the western Frontier with China. The main cities of Zaragoza and Santiago are currently fortified by three Spearmen (in Zaragoza) and 4 warriors and 2 Spearmen (in Santiago) I also have 5 catapults which will help out if needed. The main problem is, if I do attack, then I’ll need those catapults for the attacking force, let alone defence. And that excludes the eastern front, which is still very much in development. The river (the line) will be of great help in defence, but then, it will also help with the defence of Ningpo.

The Spanish Army is average compared to China but once the iron is connected and the warriors are all upgraded then I suspect I will jump up to strong and the invasion can begin. Still could do with more catapults.

IBT- Russians offer peace for 260 gold. Isabella refuses.

130AD
Koreans rope in the French against Spain, no threat to me but worrying none the less.

Russia and Sumerians sign an alliance against the Vikings.

150AD
2 Russian Horsemen, 1 warrior and 1 Archer arrive in Spanish territory at various points. The warrior is disposed of with AC, the others are out of range.

170AD
The two Russian horsemen feel the wrath of Spanish artillery and are severely reduced in health, allowing AC’s to rush in and end their misery.

The Great city of Cordoba is formed.

IBT- The Koreans offer peace for 160 gold. Isabella decides it best to accept this for two reasons. Firstly, it will mean the Koreans cannot rope in more civilizations again Spain and two, it should cause tension between Korea and France because they just signed an alliance against the Spanish Empire.

190AD
Scandinavians sign an alliance against the Spanish with the Celts. Is Isabella supposed to be intimidated by this?

230AD
In a dark day in Spanish history, the city of Jaen is accidently left undefended and captured by a lone Viking warrior. The city of Jaen WILL be retaken.

IBT- Iroquois offer peace for 200 gold. Offer accepted

250AD
Madrid completes the Great Library

260AD
Demand the Chinese withdraw, they do.

In a move learnt from previous experience, two lowly regular spearmen, taken off duty and loaded onto a galley are sent round the coast to Viking waters with the intention to stealing workers.

IBT- Learn the secrets of The Republic, Feudalism and Engineering from the Great Library. This is good, however the trading was done between the Inca and the Russians, meaning there are now two people who know the other continent.

270AD
Upgrade 11 catapults to trebuchets.

Capture two more Viking workers using piracy. Unfortunately there is only enough space on board for one more slave, so the other slave is killed.

Order Spanish workers to build road to the iron deposit. The war with China will begin soon.

IBT- French offer peace straight up. Accept.

Vikings offer peace for Engineering, Spain laughs at them.

The slave galley is sunk returning to Spain so one galley, 1 spearman and 3 Viking workers were killed in that excursion, with one more spearman surviving an attack by swordman, he will now head into the mountains and generally make a nuisance of himself.

290AD
Formally declare war on the Chinese. Let us see how Spanish AC’s fare against Chinese Spear.

IBT- A lone Chinese horseman attacks Santiago. It fails miserably.

Inca demand gold off Spain. Isabella refuses.

300AD
Move AC’s towards Ningpo

IBT- China steals a Spanish worker.

310AD
Recapture Jaen with no loss, killing 1 spearman and 2 archers.

Attack Ningpo with an elite AC and….

Ancient Cavalry Army???

Attack with a regular AC

First of many hopefully??

Use Cordoba to form an army in the newly captured city and add the AC which produced the leader and the regular AC that captured the city into the city, all the better to save the other AC’s for leader fishing.

On the eastern front the Spanish worker captured into slavery is saved by a Spanish warrior and returned to Asturias.

IBT- With the capture of Ningpo, the Spanish Empire has grown to the extent where the people of Spain wish for a second palace to be constructed to help defuse the rampant corruption in the outlying cities. The fact that this shall also act as a summer palace for Isabella and her enterage is a mute point. It is decided that, if possible, the Forbidden Palace will be constructed on the ruins of the old Chinese Palace, in Beijing.

320AD
Add a Horseman to the First Army, completing it and readying it for action, the next target being Chengdu, a costal city based on a hill. Taking the city may be problematic due to its perfect defensive position, being situated on a hill overlooking a river.

Ideally, obviously, the capturing of the Chinese capital would be a good way to end the war, however I’m worried that the cities may be slightly vulnerable to Chinese counter attack. The appearance of the First Army greatly helps things, especially with the severe lack of any form of effective artillery on the part of the AI this early in the game. The city of Kaifeng holds the iron, the only supply that the Chinese have (just visible in the pic) with that gone all I’d have to worry about would be Longbow men and Horsemen.

The Eastern Front is slightly more vulnerable. The Chinese will never take the cities of Santiago and Zaragoza, both are too heavily defended. Infact, as a result of the capture of Ningpo I’m planning on moving the majority of troops from Zaragoza to the city, forming a practical straight line to defend. The city of Asturias is extremely lonely, sticking out all by itself, defended by only an elite Spearman and 1 regular warrior. Two AC’s have been dispatched from Jaen to help bolster the cities defensive and offensive capacity and two spearmen from Pamplona have been ordered into the city. If the Chinese have any hope in doing damage to the Spanish Empire on the eastern front then that city is the key, it is the doorway to the whole eastern part of the Spanish Empire.

The Spanish source of Iron is finally connected up, allowing warriors to be trained in new weaponry. Upgrade 8 warriors to Medieval Infantry immediately, using, literally, all the gold in the Spanish Treasury. Military is now strong against China, according to the Military Advisor. Its at this point that its brought to Spain’s attention that China is currently in a bout of Anarchy, potentially changing into a Republican government. There is little time to loose, the First Army, along with 4 AC’s and 2 Horsemen are sent to the next objective. Although not fully healed since being formed the Anarchy period cannot be left to waste.

IBT- Korea complete Sun Tzu.

330AD
Attack the city of Chengdu. Army kills spearmen but is forced into red. Use AC’s, killing 3 more spearmen and 1 warrior to capture the city.

And 3 settlers are forced to become workers to the Spanish Empire. Capture a Chinese worker outside the city to make it seven workers in total

IBT- Loose 2 AC’s and 1 Horseman to Chinese counter attacks.

340AD
Move 7 Med Inf, 6 Treb’s, 2 Spearman and 2 warriors towards the city of Canton. Normally I would not deviate from any plan that may have been made however Canton is a perfect defendable city and it would take any pressure off the city of Santiago with its precious iron and ivory deposits. It’ll also be easier to take the city using Spanish Med Inf now, rather than wait for China to upgrade their lowly spearmen to Pikes

The river makes it nice for defence and easy for me to take (its on the other side) its also situated on a hill.

Take out a Chinese swordsman which killed one of the AC’s that took Chengdu. Revenge is sweet.

IBT- Sumerians cancel their alliance with Spain against the Vikings. This is good for Spain as she was waiting for the alliance to finish so that Isabella can consider the Vikings her friends once more.

350AD
Bombard a stack of 2 swordsmen and 1 horseman as they approach the Spanish troops being sent to Canton, this slight deviation will mean the units will not reach the city for one extra turn but the prospects of taking out 2 swordsmen in what can only be described as easy kills, is too good to pass.

IBT- Spanish spotters bring news of Chinese Med Inf in the field. 5 swordsmen and 1 Med Inf move onto the Spanish border, parallel to the forces that were being sent to Canton. The presense of these new units (Med Inf) only makes it more urgent that the iron deposit is taken. A Med Inf moves towards the city of Chengdu, however it is expected that the First Army will be fully healed by then

360AD
Kill the 5 swordsmen and severely damage the Med Inf

Found the city of Teurel.

Sell the Republic to the Japanese for 240 gold and to the Indians for 180 gold and 8gpt. Use the money to rush a barracks in Chengdu, allowing for instant rehealing of the First Army

IBT- A Chinese Horseman captures 5 Trebuchets. They will be recaptured next turn.

370AD Trebuchets recaptured.

Using the First Army slightly damaged in the attack on the Med Inf, Spanish forces are able to kill 2 Spearmen and capture the city of New Shanghai, capturing 3 workers. Using its last movement it is ordered to head towards the city of Kaifeng. Despite being depleated in strength, Spanish Generals are confident of success in light of the presense of lowly Spearmen.

IBT- Chinese move troops threatening Chengdu. The good thing is its regular. China has yet to master the art of barracks making.

380AD
Using again, the Glorious First Army, for the loss of 3 Spearmen it is able to capture the city of Kaifeng, seizing 2 more Chinese slaves.

Move the stack originally planed for Canton towards the city. The troops, being bolstered by the recaptured Trebuchets now consists of 22 units. Canton is defended by regular spearmen, up against Trebuchets and Med Inf, they are not expected to survive.

390AD
They didn’t.

Killing 3 Spearmen and 1 Archer the city falls with no loss.

Now comes a dilemma……. Spanish forces are now stretched rather thingly, the front now stretches from Kaifeng in the west, all along the continent to Asturias in the east and more and more Med Inf are beginning to form. Once fully healed, there is no doubt that the First Army will be able to win more victories however the actually follow up and garrisoning of the city takes longer and longer and the defensive units are stretched pretty thing. So….. peace envoys are sent to Beijing post haste. In return for the ceasing of hostilities (for the time being, China ceeds to Spain – the city of New Canton (the only Chinese city in the south, Isabella has plans for that) all of Chinese got (39) and 4 gold per turn.

So Isabella has just bought the Spanish War Machine 20 turns to fortify their position and strengthen the forward troops.

For 40 gold, peace is also signed with the Vikings.

It has also been discovered that Spanish wares are in demand on the high seas. With the newly aquired iron source, Sumeria is willing to offer Spices, 21 gold per turn and 130 gold. They are also willing to claim Spain’s silk supply for 8gpt. Frankly a bargin but as no one else yet has the ability to trade with Spain it was accepted.

IBT- The Celts demand Mathematics in return for peace, They are dismissed immediately. Invention is also taught to the Spanish people via the Great Library.

400AD
For the first time in years its all peaceful, so time to upgrade. Upgrade 5 Spearmen to Pikemen and rush a barracks in Asturias and Canton

IBT- Rather than move their troops out of Spanish territory, the Chinese move an Archer and a MDI towards Santiago……… they wouldn’t???

410AD
2 more Spearmen to pikemen. General reshuffling of troops along the length of the coast, spearmen being moved to Chengdu for upgrading.

IBT- Sumerians offer an alliance against the Vikings. Refused, Spain doesn’t need more wars………. Yet.

They didn’t…… but they are moving south. Where are they going???

420AD
First Army is fully healed. Upgrade more spearmen and disband a few regular warriors to increase gpt.

IBT- Army spots Russian troops movement in China.

430AD
With its 3 movement bonus, the First Army is able to dart into Chinese territory and kill a Russian warrior and escape again without bringing down the wrath of the Chinese military.

The Spanish offensive military consists of –

3 AC’s/ 2 Horsemen in Kaifeng
First Army/ 8 MDI/ 11 Trebs in Canton
3 Trebs in Santiago
5 warriors in Murica.

In addition to that there is 16 Spearmen and 20 Pikes throughout the Empire.

IBT- Heroic Epic completed in Barcelona.

440AD
It is discovered that China is secretly aiding the Russians against the Spanish by allowing Russian barbarians free movement in their empire. The First Army, in a scouting move, notices 3 Archers and 2 Warriors heading for Spain.

Don’t like those Chinese units though. Will demand they leave next turn.

I smell war

Russia and Scandinavia sign a peace treaty….. nice of them.

450AD

I hate the Chinese.

If I invade their territory now does that mean I get a rep hit? Yes? No? Hands up who cares? No one?? Groovy. First Army plows head first into the defenders of Beijing, killing 1 Spearman, 1 elite AC kills a regular MDI and two AC’s positioned on the far east capture 2 workers and kill 2 reg Spearman outside New Tsingtao to capture the city.

IBT- Archer dies against the defences of Palma. China move a lot of troops to various cities. Nor worried yet.

460AD
Kill the two units which started this whole silly war. Army kills 1 MDI and I spearman. It will now head home to heal.

Bombard 2 MDI’s and kill 1 of them, letting the other go as it would mean sacrificing one of my own units, which I don’t want to do.

Disperse a barbarians camp.

IBT- Chinese MDI’s rush the First Army and force it to retreat, the Army MUST be saved.

470AD
Kill 2 Spearmen to capture Yangchow. Keeping the two cities (Yangchow and New Tsingtao) will be difficult as there is no defensive units close by.

Kill 2 Horsemen and 1 warrior outside Canton.

There is a large force of Barbarian horsemen in the uncharted south. These will need to be neutralised before colonisation can continue.

IBT- Korea and Inca sign a peace treaty….. they were at war??

Kill and MDI trying to attack a Pikeman but loose to an Archer. Spain’s first loss of the war.

Unfortunately a Chinese horseman is able to steal 3 Spanish Trebs

Russians move 3 Archers and a warrior near Yangchow. Normally I wouldn’t be fussed about it but considering the strength of the (two) units there, I may have to sue for peace.

480AD
Kill a Chinese Archer and another 3 around Canton.

Upgrade 5 Warriors to MDI. Let the pain begin.

IBT- Loose a spearman to Chinese forces and a warrior to the Barbarians to the south.

490AD
Move troops into position for an attack on the city of Tienstin in the near future.

IBT- China offers peace, refused.

MDI attacks Asturias and dies horribly.

Barbarians seem to be on the move in the south.

Learn Monotheism from the Iroquois and the Americans. Set research to Chivalry, want Knights Templar.

500AD
Kill a Russian warrior. Near Yangchow.

Kill 2 Spearmen and an Archer in the Chinese city of Anyang but can’t capture it, one Spanish horseman is forced to retreat against a Chinese Archer.

Move The First Army, 8 MDI’s, 2 Pikes and 11 Trebs towards the Chinese city of Tientsin.

The Greeks have the audacity to demand Monotheism off of the Glorious Spanish Empire, I tell them where to put it. They back down like the little squirrels they are

Sumerians begin work on Knights Templar.

510AD
85 gold gets the Russians off my back for the time being. China are really starting to put pressure on my outlying cities.

Kill 2 Spearmen, 1 Med Inf and 1 Archer to capture the city of Tientsin.

Now we come to an age old problem, one which I’ve always had. Projection of force. I have roughly the same about of units as China. However, my units are more powerful and I have the advantage of being able to field more units, whilst the Chinese cannot due to their lack of Iron and I also have an army. But the thing is being able to take cities fast enough to prevent China from being able to counter attack properly. Just need to wait and see…

IBT- Loose a Pikeman at Yangchow and 1 AC is forced to retreat however in the process 2 MDI’s and 1 Horseman is lost and China don’t have a lot of MDI’s left.

520AD
Fortify the retreting AC’s in Kaifeng. There will be no more advancing on that front in the near future. Fortify units on the western front as well, at Yangchow, that front is very vurnerable.

Move a stack of 2 Pikes, 3 Trebs and 5 Med Inf towards Beijing. It was be accompanied by the First Army once fully healed. Its movement rate allows for both troops to arrive at roughly the same time.

Spanish forces begin to notice the presense of Longbow men in Chinese cities, not good.

Move a stack of 11 Trebs, 8 MDI’s and 1 AC towards Tsingtao

IBT- Troop movement, no attacks. Yangchow is lookg very vurnerable. To defend 2 cities there is 2 AC’s and 1 Pike. China have a lot of Settler pairs roaming about, I counted at least 4. They think they’re gonna get to use them? Pft.

530AD
Bombard Tsingtao and attack a Longbow man with elite MDI and get………….. BARTOLOME!!! GET IN!!! :hammer: another Army. Pentagon by 1000AD?? :smug:

Kill 2 more spears to capture the city, taking 2 slaves.

MDI Army or another AC Army??.......... MDI, power over mobility. But not yet. The next targe is the city of Xinjian when that is captured the Chinese Empire will be split in two.

Lets see if this makes sense.

Two stacks. Stack 1 (Beijing) will take the city and move west, taking Chinan and Anyang aided by the AC’s and Horsemen in Kaifeng, who otherwise can’t do much.

Stack 2 (Tsingtao) is the honey spot. On its (hopefully successful) manuvers, it will take the cities of Xinjian and Shanghi, taking in China’s supplies of Spice, Ivory and one of their Horses (the other is near Yangchow)

With that, stack 1 will head north and wipe up any other cities up north whilst stak 2 will move south east and help support (or retake) the cities of Yangchow and New Tsingtao. And mop up the cities out that way.

Easy eh??

540AD
Kill 2 Spearmen, 2 Horsemen and 1 Longbow Man……….

:hammer:

Kill an archer threatening New Tsingtao. The cities hold out for now……

IBT- Sumeria and Scandinavia sign a peace treaty, nice of them…..

A longbowman, a Horseman and a MDI attack the stack of 5 MDI’s outside the city of Xinjian, loose 1 MDI at the hands of the longbow man, the horse retreats and the MDI dies horribly

550AD
Unfazed, the stack of now 4 MDI’s attack the city and, killing 2 Spearmen and 1 Longbow man, captures the city.

The newly formed Second Army (2 MDI strong) kills an archer outside Xinjian.

After years of fighting (well defending) the barbarian threat in the south is no more, and the settlers move in.

IBT- Don’t notice a Spearman on my second iron deposit, its soon disconnected. And as I’m exporting a supply to the Sumerians, I don’t have iron for a while.

The Chinese move most of their units away from Yangchow, they must be getting worried at the fact I’m ripping their core cities new ones.

560AD
Kill 4 MDI’s threatening Xinjian and the last Archer near Yangchow, the two (completely over worked) AC’s can rest peacefully.

Kill 2 more Chinese archers. Its becoming a slaughter.

Completely on its own, the First Army pulls off a bit of sheer cunning-

Kill 2 Spearmen in the process. Capture a slave as well. Now if I can just keep it….

IBT- Loose two MDI in possibly the worst losses since the war started.

570AD
In the first time in the entire war Spanish forces notice Chinese pikemen, the war just got harder but frankly, its all but over.

Loose an AC in the process but kill 2 Spearmen to capture the city of New Nanking. The Chinese now no longer have any horses.

Kill a spearman and 1 MDI outside Chinan.

IBT- Loose an AC to a Chinese Longbow man. China also move a settler pair south, into my territory, they kidding me??

580AD
Two more Chinese units die horribly, a horseman and a longbowman.

Move the First Army, 2 AC’s, 2 MDI and 3 Trebs towards Anyang, the “finish line” for one of the stacks. Move 11 Trebs, 4 MDI’s, 1 Pike and 2 AC towards Shanghai, the other “finish line”, the Second Army will join later.

China consists of 9 cities (and maybe one settler in a galley which is hugging the coast south, probably to settle in the south.

IBT- Hmmmmm....... nothing, how bizarre.

590AD
For the first time in hundred of years, the city of Almeria is finally founded in the south.

Bombardment of Anyang was completely unsuccessful so attack is postponed for 1 more turn to allow for additional units of 3 MDI’s to reach the battlefield.

6 Russian archers and 1 warrior are floating about in the spaces made after the capturing of Chinese cities……….. where are they going????

IBT- Spain’s Iron for Spice deal with Sumeria comes to a close, don’t’ want them getting too powerful, once China is killed off, they’re next.

TGL teaches us Gunpowder…… nice.

only one source <phew> and its in the newly captured Chinese lands.

Many cities riot as a result of my stupidity and not raising luxuries to combat the loss of Spice.

600AD
Rush a temple in Xinjian so that once the borders expand, Spain shall have her very own source of Spice.

Kill 3 Spearmen to capture the great city of Shanghai.

Kill 2 Spearmen and 2 of China’s precious Pikemen to capture the city of Anyang, why was this city so important???

Finally, both stacks have passed the finish line.

Loose a MDI to kill a settler pair.

Trade Gunpowder to Sumeria for spices, Chivalry, 10 gold per turn and 40 gold

I’m not 100% sure why, but I don’t like the position of New Canton, so, as a result, I disband the city and form “New New Canton” just to the east.

Kill an annoying Archer beside New Nanking

if I’m annoying anyone with the “kill archer here or kill MDI there” its cause I’m keeping score  sorry

IBT- Chinese troop movements

620AD
It sucks having techs and everyone’s skint.

Move the First Army towards Nanking, should take the city without much effort. If there is resistance then there is a stack of 11 Trebs, 6 MDI’s and 3 AC’s waiting to come crack the nut.

IBT- Loose an MDI against a Chinese Longbow man

630AD
Killing no less than 3 Spearmen, the First Army surges on and….

:hammer: Armies ROCK

The good thing is, the further north I progress, the move varied the terrain I bring under my control. My fear is getting to Steam Power and finding out I’ve no coal!!

Raise luxuries to 10%, just for safety.

Trade America Chivalry for 350 gold, they’d get it off someone eventually.

With the successes of the First Army I decide to just leave the Second Army in the north to help mop up the Chinese cities nearby, whilst moving all other units south to take out the cities there. China will not last.

IBT- China plant a Spearman/Settler right on the spot where a Spanish settler was heading, oh well, save me having to build it.

640AD
Kill 2 Chinese spearmen whilst heading for the rendezvous point

Not to be upstaged by the First Army’s brave dash to capture Nanking, the Second Army surges forward and captures the Chinese city of Hangchow, killing 2 spearmen and capturing 1 Chinese worker in the process.

China now consists of 5 cities and THAT settler.

Kill a longbow man with a Pike and wipe out an archer threatening Yangchow.

IBT- Borders expand and Spain now has her very own source of Spice.

China moves the settler south, into the mountains  what they smoking??

650AD
Kill a longbow man with an elite MDI. Still no leader!!

With 3 sources of ivory I can kind of be generous and sell it to the Russians for 8 gold and 1 worker.

First Army moves towards New Beijing. I own the old one, might as well have the new one as well.

IBT-
In a :weed: moment, the Chinese is able to recapture one of their workers.

In worse news, Nanking flips back to China, taking with it 1 Pike and 3 Trebs. I’m not pleased.

660AD
A longbow man in the open? Pft, prepare to die. Elite AC goes in……

Third Army AND pentagon (well…….. once I build it)!!! Probably make it a Knight army. Or a Crusader Army if I get Knights Templar  how totally kickass would that be???!!!

Kill a pikeman and 1 Spearman in New Beijing to capture the city.

11 Trebs, 12 MDI’s and 4 AC’s. This will be the force which shall signal the end of the Chinese empire in the east.

Leave New Beijing undefended whilst the First Army wheels around and heads for Nanking.

Second Army heads for Macao

IBT- NO Chinese movement, they’re officially spent.

670AD
Kill 2 Spearmen to retake Nanking.

Second Army is able to catch two workers out in the open outside Macao and kills a Spearman in the city for good measure.

I can’t wait to get this war over with and become a Republic. Science is trailing…..

Found Leon in the position I thought I’d never get cause of the Chinese, but they moved so….. well its mine now. Once its borders expand then I’ll have another (my third) source of iron.

IBT- Notice a Chinese boat moving down south, I really hope there’s not a settler in that, that’s the last thing I need.

After a quick bombardment, Paotang is taken with no loss. Killing 3 Spearmen.

AC’s move in on Tatung, killing 1 pikeman and 1 spearman to capture the city. Still no losses.

Second Army kills a spearman in Macao to capture the city. 1 to go (or maybe 3)

Begin the Revolution. Republic in 2

IBT- China found New Chendgu.

680AD
Move troops towards the last Chinese city in the north, Shantung.

IBT- Learn Theology from TGL. Hopefully it will stay on the bottom tear for a bit, so I can get more techs.

700AD
Spain becomes a Republic.

Kill 3 Spearmen to capture the city of Shantung……………………… there’s another city somewhere. Ah, its up north near Shantung, I just assumed that was Scandinavian. Oh well, troops dispatched.

WW is at 33%. Not long now.

710AD
Destroy New Chendgu.

Reluctantly sign a peace treaty with the Celts. Their time will come.

Some times, you’re just stuck to find the right words and all you can say is “eh???”

What are they doing??? For the record there are 7 Endiku Warriors, 8 Longbow Men, 1 Archer and 4 Horsemen there just………. Sitting. Normally I’d be worried but they ain’t doing much. And they’re not at war with anyone

IBT-

Me thinks that the earth-mother’s children needs a spanking. Refused. War. Doh.

720AD
I’m not even close to being happy with the Celts so…..

Monotheism to Scandinavia and Russia…..

Little ****heads.

Always something to perk the mood up a bit

One down :hammer:

Review of war to follow soon, finishing the write up.

just noticed something, when the Celts declared war on me, I called them something unpleasent. I then forgot to edit it myself and posted it, and the forum's done it for me!! Woo

Pics too large to simply open here, but it helps explain it better. With the city of Canton taken in the First Chinese War, it allowed Spanish troops access to the Chinese core cities, most importantly Beijing.

The “Risky Endeavour” (yes I know its spelt wrong  ) certainly paid off. Rather amazing the amount of troops 2 single AC’s could hold off (aided by 2 Pikemen sent from other cities but still) They definitely held their own, and also diverted some troops from the main offensive in the center. Even if they only held down 2 or 3 units, that’s still 2 or 3 units which could have been used to repel an attack.

The “Early Advances” went rather well I believe, cities fell, cities China couldn’t afford to loose.

The “Splitting of the Forces” was a huge gamble on my part. By that point I was gambling on China sitting back and defending without doing too much in the way of counter attacking. A weighed counter attack in Xinjian would have forced me to postpone the attack and maybe given China more time. However the AI didn’t, so they died. The appearance of a second leader thus second army, really helped future operations.

The appearance of pike men certainly confused me……… where did they come from??? No one else has iron that I knew of. As I said, it made the game harder, but the war was almost over so they came too late to make an impact (like German Jet Fighters in WW2) The only thing I can think of is they were being built before the iron was disconnected, but frankly, I’m at a loss.

The flipping of Nanking was annoying and got me slightly worried for a while, it almost stretched my forces too thin but by that time, the Chinese had nothing left to put out.

“Mopping UP” really showed the power of the Army, the Second Army just went to town with those cities.

The “End Game” was rather straightforward, redeploying all forces to a central jump off point and just steam roll to the finish line. The small hiccup at the end where I didn’t notice the last Chinese city was confusing, but I got there in the end. The last Chinese city was actually Scandinavian in origin, they must have been fighting when I was giving their forces a kicking.

Conclusions
My Empire has more or less doubled. A warmongering Civ has been removed (a veteran of 2 of my previous Spanish games) and the door is now wide open towards the next conquest, the Sumerians. They’re smaller than China (slightly) but they are more advanced and powerful. The really good thing is, if I conquer Sumerian lands, then the front I need to defend against the other Civ’s on the continent are only about 4 or 5 squares. A Conquest loss now is unlikely but its still something to look out for…..

i am a big fan of sandman and your passed stories i dare say you are his equal. brilliantly played and good luck.

I wouldn't say I'm close to Sandman's skill but thanks anyway and to El Loco, you're from Scotland!!! WOO, someone else!!!

That was a great war effort, Steviejay. The only bit I don't understand is why did you change governments from monarchy to republic, at least at this point right now? The way I see it, you have the great library keeping you current in techs for the moment, and you want to punish those Sumerians for past wrongs. With Monarchy's zero war weariness, you could have had a brief pause, then resumed your aggression. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Sandman, great story btw. By the time the war was almost over TGL was almost at the end of its life. I was really suprised I was able to get Gunpowder out of it, thats a first for me, I knew that with the Koreans and Sumerians about they'd research Education and then I'd be left behind. (btw, the point I'm at, the Great Library is finished, Spain learned Education in 760AD)

I was also aware that I was in no state to simply beat the Chinese, stop for a breather then move on to the Sumierians. I'd consider them my equal in terms of military and also a large portion of my newly aquired Chinese cities were still undefended. If I declared on the Sumerians thne I'd loose alot of ground up there. Also, the 20 units the Sumerians have just sitting outside my territory is still giving me chills

I choose to go to the Republic when I did to try to gain a bit in tech and money before I eventually declared on the Sumerians, as it would take some time before I could consolodated my position in the Chinese cities and moved troops to their forward bases. The fact I'm a Religious Civ really helped, with only 2 turns of Anarchy, if the war does drag on I can always revolt back. I plan to do the same with SUmierna as I did with China, progress to my limit, make peace, 20 turns later, progress on to the finish line.

I'm playing now so update soon.

i didn't realize you were a scot! that makes 2 of us. i'm from edinburgh btw. keep up the good work
