Hi. I've been playing as the Dutch for the last few days and just got a brilliant start location for a commerce tactic.

The game settings are Monarch, no tribal villiages or barbarians, no tech brokering, and I give myself a free worker at the start because I still suck on monarch without a little help, but its not as bad as when I used to use advanced starts.

This was a generated map, but I had to regerate a few times to get it (Click to view, they are 1920x1200 resolution):

Start Location - o.O Lots of dyes and two food resources

Settle in place to find even more dye, I like dyes :)

Southern part explored

And the North

North city placed

And the south

And to top of the great locations, the random events decided to give my some Truffles, Mmmmm....

Yummy truffles

Will post my progress later, but it should be a :goodjob: game.

Actually, the map doesn't seem that great to me. The dyes won't help until Calendar and production capacity is quite poor. In addition, I'm not seeing too many spaces for horses/iron/or copper to potentially spawn. I imagine that you'll probably want to whip out an invasion force of elephants for a resource war as soon as possible.

and you're wasting a lot of space with your cityplacement (from my point of view). Specially as a financial civ, I want as many coastal tiles as possible. Seeing as you're not gonna get any productional highrollers anyway I would've settled in such a way that I could fit up to three cities north and south.

Any start with the Dutch on Archipelago is an awesome start. Ok, some are more awesome than others.
