Finding those elusive resources?

I often have trouble locating newly gained resources, sometimes even within my own borders.

Is there an easy way to locate them? Someone please tell what a fool I've been, and tell me where the easy to use feature is.

If there isn't shouldn't there be.

Am I just a blind bat complaining or have anyone else had this problem?

Assuming the ressource is inside your borders, you can go to the trade advisor screen, roll the mouse over the ressource and it will tell you which is the nearest town.
If you still can not find it, you can use the CTRL+SHIFT+M hotkey to have a clear map (without cities, roads, units).

Some resources are difficult to see and there's no feature in the game to locate them in the same way that you can find a city. Sometimes a resource is completely covered by a city making it impossible to see.

The graphics come from a file called resources.pcx (from memory) and there are different mods of this file which make spotting resources easier. Check them out in the graphical mods section. My favourite has an initial letter as a flag to the graphic, which is easy to see straight away.

Thanks Loki, really excellent tip about the trade advisor screen.


I've already tried CTRL+SHIFT+M, I was also hoping for an easier way to spot resources within enemy lands.

And thanks Seghillian, I will definately try that, coal has been next to impossible to find when on a mountain.

This works as long as you have a road already connecting the square, but it is still a good tip. It is the easiest way to see where the resources are when they are under a city.
