Gameplay incoming...

Our first dev livestream, Civ Streams: Antiquity Age, is less than a week away!
Tune in to twitch.tv/firaxisgames on September 12 at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 5PM GMT / 7PM CEST.

Here's what you can expect...
  • First Looks are back! We're kicking off the series live on stream with Hatshepsut.
  • We're showing off gameplay and deep-diving into the Antiquity Age.
  • We'll cover an Age transition: what you can expect and what will carry over into the Exploration Age.
We'll also take some time to answer some community Q's, so please feel free to share in comments, or ask our devs live in chat. See you all soon during the stream! 🙇‍♀️

Q: How will Civ 7 handle movement points exactly? More specifically will you be able to walk on a hill or forest with only 1 movement point left like in Civ 5 or do you need 2 movement points if a tile requires that.

I've been bothering youtubers with this question but it's been too long since they played haha

@FXS_Sar since you are taking questions for the Q&A:

How many civs and leaders are there in the base game?

Re: questions for the Devs.

How modular are the city tilesets? Are they hard coded to the civ itself or are they based on the tile? Would it be possible for, say, one generic district (not a unique quarter) to retain the cultural aesthetic of an different civ, or for individual buildings within a single tile to be a mish-mash of different architectural and cultural styles for more cosmopolitan cities?

Not necessarily for vanilla, but is it something modders can play with?

Re: Questions for the Devs.

How much agency will players get in naming/identifying terrain features, Leaders, Civs and other elements?

If I want to play as Pharaoh Obtuse XXIX while using Hatshepset's graphics, can I?
If I want to make sure my Egyptian capital is on the Nile and not the Nara, can I rename the river?
Will Army Commanders have names, numbers, or Cryptic Symbols to identify them?

I certainly hope for Army Commander naming for the reason you are alluding to.

There is a variety of promotion paths, so it would be nice to know at a glance if I'm going into a fight with Ralph, the blitzkrieg guy, or Roger, the guy who is pretty good at running a logistics depot back at fort.

Two questions for consideration:

1. What is happening on the unexplored portion of the map during the Antiquity Age? Are there other civilizations basically playing a parallel game in the background?

2. Is the jersey color system coming back?

- And for those of us who know entirely too much about the subject for comfort, can I play Modern Age Russia with Samsonov or Rokossovskii? Exploration Age France with Marshal Tallard or Turenne?

Somebody else may be able to add more but:

1. They have said that other civilizations will be playing in the background. What exactly that means about their situation when you contact them in the Exploration Age (presumably) is not known yet, I believe.

2. We have seen the same Leader with different colors on the background banners. Whether that represents 'jersey' colors or simply variations in the Civ they are Leading, I am not sure.

Kinda silly question of mine, but just for curiosity:
Can we expect civ-specific trailers to happen in the (maybe near) future, similar to what happened with Civ 6? And if so, can leaders get such specific trailers as well?
Not a silly question! First Look videos are making a return - and they'll be leader-focused. We're showing off the first of these during the livestream :)

So apparently this is going to sit atop my Youtube recommendations for a week. 😅

What an odd choice for a leader to feature in the thumbnail about "The Antiquity Age."
That's the most personality I've seen from a Civ7 leader, and it's my bête noire Napoleon. That gives me hope.

Will there also be looks at civilizations, or will those mostly be posted to the Firaxis blog like we've seen with Egypt, Maya, Aksum, Maurya, and Cree?

Question for the insufferable typographer in me:

Are the textboxes governed by UI scale, or does the relative size of the textbox/text scale in proportion to the UI elements? I ask because there’s a lot of orphans in the copy, which makes the irrational nerd part of my brain twitch ever so slightly.

is there a clean way in-engine for text boxes to get handled such that a second word is dropped down to accompany those lonely orphans?

This is maybe less a question and more of a quirk I’m pointing out.

Oh thanks, and jeez I'm blind LOL, I should have read everything before posting things
