The United Fanatica shall soon make first contact with another civilization. The Diplomacy Deity asks the following of our loyal citizens:

1. Do we trade techs? To what degree (ie: til map exchange possible)
2. Do we give tribute if it is demanded?
3. Do we demand tribute?
4. What shall we sign? (ie: Peace, Alliance)

Please respond quickly, as our President will surely go into negotiations within 48 hours and will need to know what the poeple want.

I suggest we exchange as much tech as possible, unless they have useless tech. We should not pay tribute, and we should not demand it, at least not now . We must first build up our defences, then we can demand stuff.

NO Alliances, they are useless. Peace, uh, no. If they offer us money, we should accept.

So, say no at first, and if they offer stuff for us to sign, yes.

I think we should trade as many techs as possible, except of course if the only thing they have is a worthless prerequisite for a tech we already got, and don't give any money as part of the deal for techs. If they offer to trade maps then go for it, but again don't do it if they want money as part of the deal. Same thing with Peace, sign a peace treaty as long as we don't have to give money to get it. Also we shouldn't demand anything and should try to remain on freindly terms for now without giving in to demands for tribute.

Perhaps the pansy president could tell me how to make a poll with 4 questions in it? Diplomacy is not a statistic, it needs to be debated and expressed through more complicated means.

As for my opinions...trade everything we've got tech wise, definitely get their map, take no crap nor dish out any (tribute) and sign a peace treaty so they don't sink our trireme on the way back to the main continent or something AIish like that.

My personal style is to never give up any tech, but it appears I am out-gunned on this one.

So be it. I am in agreement with everything else. A neutral attitude and even exchange. If they declare war on us, all the better.

We need more territory anyway.

I'm not sure that giving away techs is the best option, and I would advise not accepting a peace treaty until we know where their cities are. If the civ we encounter are exceptionally deficient in tech then it might be an idea to give them some techs and get their map, but I would proceed cautiously. We are in need of some more land to settle, and it would be sensible to take some that has cities already built for us!

Unless something amazing is offered, I'm opposed to trading techs as we have nothing useless to give away.

Don't give tribute, don't demand it and don't sign anything unless we're paid.

Very simple.

When submitting your reply, there is an option, "Post a poll".

Click yes.
4 options is the default, it can be changed to up to 20 selections, or as few as 2.

Then ask your poll questions and submit.

Why the objection to tech trading? If we are to crush them, we need their maps, and really, who gives a $*$# about what they'll do with them? This is the AI we're talking about

Sorry Pel, there are NO friends in Civ2, let alone Emperor level, and you should view all AI as a hostile threat to yourself and nation. The AI is a evil, warmongering monster. But there map would be useful.

Again, I state we should remain neutral unless they pay us. By being neutral, we can declare war without penalty

My approach is to try to provoke them into declaring war on me but that is beside the point we MUST have their map. We need to know where their cities are. We need some sort of intel to allow us to place our troops

when I run into someone, I usually save the game, then give them everything I have untill they are worshipful, and ask for thier map. if they say no, I give summore stuff, then ask again, untill I have given everything. then I ask for thier map again, and if I dont get it, I load the game, and just trade some techs. some might call that cheating, I just call it "seeing if they want to give me thier maps" as in real life, I could just say "what do you want for in exchange for your map?"
