First loading screen terribly slow...

Hi guys, I was wondering, is it normal that the first loading screen (the one with the Civilization V logo, right after the intro video) takes something like 5 minutes to load?



I have tried the game on both my laptop (which is rather new and not obsolete) and my main cpu (which is older but still performing).
Nothing, always 2-5 minutes to pass the first loading screen.
Is it normal? Anyone else with same problem? Is there anything I can do to change/improve this?
And besides, that's the same for normal loading screens when I load a saved file.
Always takes something like 2-3 minutes to load a match.

Yes, it is very frustrating. I upgraded my computer so I could play this game, so it's really frustrating to have the problem seem to be on Steam's end.

Is that what it is? Anyone know a way to speed up Steam or disable it? (I'm playing by myself so I don't need to be online.)

It's not steam, it's the game loading. It takes the same time if you play offline. I start the game and make a cup of tea while it is loading.

I run mine from a dedicated SSD just for Civ and Windows. It now starts in just over 30 seconds, used to be 5 mins!

I run steam and Civ5 from a thumb drive. It takes about 50 seconds to load.
