Hello guys,

I'm playing BTS + BAT mod and I have an annoying war against Gengis Khan. I had the same doubt in the past but now I'm pretty sure there is something wrong in the way the AI chose the first target in combat:

I have a stack of 5 catapults escorted by 10 axes + holkans and the mongol is able to attack (and obviously destroy) my catapults first !! What am I missing ?? I always thought the defender automatically picks the best defender, and I'm sure that when I attack I always face the worst enemy ... pls help ! :( He just attacks with simple axes and swords ...

Are your catapults heavily drill-promoted? The game tries to pick the best defender, but values first strikes very highly there.

I could understand that catapults may defend over axes on flatland, especially if the attackers have Shock promotions...
but this shouldn't happen against swordsmen.

Hmm, interesting, I didn't think about promotions .. Anyway my catapults were just City Raider 1, I was on flatland and about his promotions I should check ... I think only combat 1 but he is aggressive so shock is also possible ...

You mean I'd better lose one turn and move the stack on hills/forests ?

Quite possibly - you'll get a defensive bonus for your non-siege units there. So not only will you get better odds, defense will be handled by a unit that's more efficient for the job.

I'll give it a try, unfortunately I lost catapults so stupidly and probably now he's time to build more defenders. And if he gets construction he'll start pumping Phants ...

I have been pretty irked sometimes... like when the computer decides that his units would attack several of my CR artillery directly, circumventing my Combat promoted infantry... The computer had artillery of his own that he was attacking with.
Gave my enemy enough time, due to the setback, to let Frederick vassalize him rather than capitulating to me...
ARGGGGHHHH!!!!
