Im new to this game, and I was wondering, what should you research 1st at your library? Should you research it right away or build your economy first? Thanks in advance.

Almost always research science first. It lowers the cost of researching the other techs, AND increases scout sight which means more chance of ruins bonuses. From there it's a style call, I personally go for the civic to get my second city up and running, then commerce, and last is military.

How early should you get a military up and running? What size? I usually play on all-land maps going for a Information Age conquest victory.

I personally play LAN everytime I load up RoN :D

I usually go after the science first and then military so that I can research and maybe rush my opponent (or AI :p) and do some early damage.

Or I'll do science and economy if I am an economic nation and I wont build a decent military for awhile.

Plus, we only play from the first age to the gunpowder age cause 1) We're still new to the game ;) and 2) One of the computers sucks so a lot of units in the information age = laaaaaag

:D

What kind iof ruler are you?
If you are obcessed with tour military, and making upgrades, and increasing your pop. limit, go for Military.
If you want to go for larger territory and expanding your borders, go for Civics.
If you want Markets and mercants and more gold with caravans, and capitalze on rare rescourcces, go for commerce.
If you want less cost on science, go for science.

I go Civics, Science, Military, Commerce

I used to go military first, but I feel thats a mistake, you have to get your economy going before can even think about rushing, in most situations, I like to either research commerce or civics first, and then science, for the temple. I usually rush the enemy middle game, before enlightenment if possible. It would also help if you specify which civ you like to play the most, a start with china has to be different then one as the bantu or egypt, and so on. I think economy is first, so either another city or commerce, I usually have finished by second city by the time commerce is finished researched, I then try to get temples to increase my hold on the map, and to get rare resources.

I like to go science, economy, the blue one, whatever it's called (:p) then military.

Ultimately I think science is the best choice on an ancient start. You cannot fully capitalize on the civics or economics advancements, alone, until you have both of them. May as well use your initial wealth to pay for the science advancement.

I once got spawned mere yards away from an enemy player in a solo battle, and even then, I took science first.

science, civics, and if I'm going for an early rush, such as with Aztecs or Japs, military. otherwise, commerce and only military when needed for pop cap.
