What was the first word you ever said?
Your first word does resemble the needs you had as a baby.
For most of us, it was probably either "Mom" or "Dad".

Mine was "juice". Apparently, I was a thirsty boy.

I dont have any recolection of my early-EARLY-childhood

My son's first word was "poo-dee". He'd point up at things on the shelf and shout, "Poo-dee. Poo-dee. POO-DEEEE!". I'd say, "Yeah, poo-dee. I agree!", or, "Is it really, baby? I didn't know that!" After a month or so, he altogether gave up on that nonesense word.

Some epochs of infant development later, he pointed to the apple I was crunching and experimentally asked, "Poo-lee." Oh, baby, you're asking "please" for that?

:o Man, it sucks being a kid.

In terms of how child development is measured by nurses the words 'Ma' and 'Da' don't count as first words.

I don't know what my first word was but my first son's first word was 'Truck' (even before Ma and Da incidentally), :hmm: needs to access local distribution networks?

My second son hasn't spoken a word yet, but is a master of nonverbal communication and so seems in no big hurry.

I think it was "daddy", IIRC. :hmm:

Mine was dada. Basically everyone in my faimlies was dada. except my little sister hers was mama. What I little mama's girl. :)

That reminds me of the very first thing my son said, which could be given meaning to. He was a month or two old - far too young for real first words. He was fussy and I was bouncing him in his springy-seat. He looked straight at me between gasping and howling like any red-faced newborn and pronounced, "Die."

that would freak me out!!!!

I think it was "twain" (as in wailway twain).

"I"

As in "I say, could you pass me a light. Gosh that was strange. That's the last time I'm going in one of those. Anyone got a paper?"

"up!"

first word I could spell was "police" at age 2 :D

One of my nephews did something similar. He was perched on his mother's knee while we chatted and suddenly turnned his head and stared toward the wall. He began giggling at this blank wall, then gestured towards it and he said quite clearly "the devil". Well there was probably some top-down processing on our parts- but it sent a chill down the spine anyway.

Tolerance. ;)
