I didn't see this in the Bug List, apologies if it's a dupe.

If you have a building with specialists assigned to work it (library, for instance), and sell the building, you apparently sell the citizens into slavery along with it.

You should be able to verify this anywhere, but see the attached save. Cherokee has 15 population, but only 13 available citizens if you count all the workers and specialists. You should also be able to recreate the condition in any one of the, ah, numerous cities provided. ;)

Saving and reloading does not clear the condition. I've not played further along in the game enough to know if it is corrected by a change in city population. Reassigning everyone, telling the governor to reset tiles, etc., does also not clear the condition.

Be forewarned, I'm ICSing on a Huge map, so it's probably crash-prone. I'd recommend switching to the strat view immediately on load.

I can confirm this as a new bug. The workers and specialists in Cherokee are as described above. I also opened the city screen for Yakutsk. The total pop is 14. There are 6 workers and 8 specialists, including two artists for a Temple. I sold the Temple. The two artists disappeared, leaving 6 workers and 6 specs. I played two turns. Yakutsk grew to size 15. There were now 7 workers and two specs, still leaving the city two short. Thanks for bringing this up and providing a save.

Noticed something odd tonight related to this. I sold a Temple where 2 Specialists were housed and then bought it back on the same turn... and the 2 Specialists came back with it! I guess they are still assigned to it so when it showed up they went right back to work. Haven't gotten around to testing whether they'll come back on a later turn buy or a rebuild though.

Haha, hilarious. I'm still playing the game in which this happened, and it happened in my best cities, so rebuilding the libraries should only take a couple turns. I'll let you know what I find.

Confirmed that you can rebuild or rebuy the city at any later time to recover your lost specialists. In the process, I also confirmed that you get Great Scientist points from the assigned specialists even when the building is destroyed. I suspect that you get the actual science from them too, though I didn't check for this.
