me and my girlfriend recently did a writing exersise, and she produced this based on the Orabis game, I think it would be a good bit for the Civopedia if edited to fit.
Menec
I cant ask for more. I have it all. And yet I have nowhere to go to get a little piece of mind.
They keep asking me so many questions. They are questioning their existents right in front of me. What did I do wrong?
I was born not very far from here. Delivered to the world by the only woman I have never known.
Why are we here?. Questions, questions.
They look up to me because I am on the top. I was born on the top, but it is cold up here.
I look up but I see nothing. I just dont see it. So who am I to decide what the meaning of life is? Above me are only clouds. On a good day, only blue sky. But that is all I see.
God. What would he even look like?
I want my people to think for themselves. Im leading them with a freedom much greater than they can understand.
I pray that they wont surrender to the simple answers.
I look at them every day. Every one.
I see them work. I see them cry. I see them laugh. I see them being born.
I see them grow old and die from me. Every one.
As I said Its cold on the top.
When they ask me questions I say maybe. When they give me food I say thank you.
I am Menec, the leader of Grigori. My destiny is unknown and my life goes on forever.
I live in a small house in the center of Cassiel. Ive named the city after my older brother, who disappeared out of my life many years ago. I miss him every day, but I know he had greater visions than life could offer him, and that this is for the best.
The women I know, proposes to me every day, and every day I say maybe.
I have many friends around me. Jeon, Hector and Sidhelle are the closest at the moment. They are working in the army, but it has been very peaceful in our land for hundreds of years, so now they are mostly helping me maintaining some of the oldest buildings in Cassiel.
I met them separately, but all of them I found wandering around in the fields near Lejre, looking for adventure. I took them under my wings to give them a home in a land that could provide them the experiences they were looking for.
Yesterday Hector brought me a letter from Hanna the Irin leader of the Lanun pirates, who wanted me to come to Innsmouth and teach her some stuff.
She thinks you are charming he laughed as I opened the envelope.
I wrote her back: No.
I have rivals around the world, but we stay at peace because we have no good reason not to.
Every single person in Grigori is my family by heart. Of course there are underdogs, criminals and anarchists, but with good comes evil.
Jeon suggests we send them all to Valhal because it used to be the vile barbarians city. He doesnt understand that I took that city to make it into a peaceful place that would connect us with our close friends, the Amurites.
Sometimes Im very thankful that Jeon is not me, but he is a good person, and in my heart he is my brother.
The time we live in is vibrating. There is a lot going on across the mighty seas, but Im trying to keep it together here and build up a safe and happy society for my people.
A little girl from Ydon once told me that I have to understand the differences between reality and life. Since then I have done my best to prove to my people that life is worth everything, and the reality is worth thinking about when life troubles you. It has given me the result of a happy country, though with people that still comes to me with questions that I cannot yet free them from.
Am I here for a reason?
I say maybe.
When I need answers to my own questions I go to Ydon to find the very same girl who is now a very old and wise woman, living a lonely life on the little icy paradise we have created.
She is the oldest person I have ever known. She says her wisdom fills her with new life, and that our questions fill her with wisdom, so we do our best to keep her alive, by keep asking. It is also how we keep ourselves to our believes: Dont rely on anything or anyone.
I have asked her many questions. I have asked her how to lead my people. I have asked her how to make my bed, do my hair, how to communicate with rivals and how to deal with the plagues coming over us out of the nowhere.
To all my questions she says dont change anything.
