Hey everyone

I'm having some problems with my computer and wondering if anyone can help.

After a while of using my computer (call it maybe about an hour), but computer's screen starts flickering, in such a manner as to be unusable. I'm trying to figure out what could be causing this.

It's unlikely to be the monitor, as I had a 2 monitor setup going and it affected both. So i'm figuring it's the video card which is a gigabyte radeon 9200 i think.

another thing is that i have had problems with an entirely seperate computer and not quite the same, but monitor problems nonetheless which may be caused by a large number of wires in the wall - maybe.

Please help - it's quite distressing as this is a new computer.

That is a possibility. When I was at the university, they changed a room next to the building's power transformator into a PC class, and all the monitors had to be shielded with steel frames to stop them from flickering. So I would suggest trying to move the computer into a different room and see if the problem persists.

Is it flickering on and off or is it rolling? Rolling as in the image repeats up and down in a dizzying rolling fashion. If it is rolling, it is probably your video driver. If you installed a new one, and it came with a crappier default one, it could've reverted to the crappy one. This happened to me once.

If it is clicking on and off, there could be something wrong with the monitor. I really hate to say that because it's new. :(

with a monitor it could be as stated software. I would check the video drivers and make sure they are correct. Hardware start with the card make sure it is seated correctly if it has a fan make sure the fan is on its own power lead and not the mother board. New monitor it could be defective happens rare but happens. But don't fear it prob. came with a three year warrenty.
Hope this helps.

i took the monitor to someone elses house and it still had the same effect. so i think i can discount the environment. which is not good.

i looked for updated video drivers but found none. my monitor does have a 3 year warrantee on it, and my video card has at least one, but i don't want to return them unless i have to. bought them in a different state and all.

and i don't have system support cos i built it myself.
