I know its a little late for anything like a request, but I would like to have an AI-option for the game, maybe implemented in an extension. What happens if all victory conditions are turned off? Than neither the human nor the AI would have reason to play for victory. Previous victory conditions give you some benefits maybe but that would not really important. Its of course something that requires some major AI tweaks, but I think it would be possible. A mod might nt be able to do that because reprogramming an AI of that magnitude is very deap hard core coding.. I dont know if that is possible but if so, i would be delighted!

So the question for CFC is: what would be required for this? Does it makes sense to have a game that you cant win but loose (if you are wiped out) ? Maybe it is reduced to a "last man standing" type of game? Where are the problems? What are the options?
 
In Civ4, It still tried to win a cultural victory, even if it was disabled. And I dont know what the AI will do if there are NO victory conditions available.. maybe it goes all crazy?
 
Isn't this basically just 'score' victory?

I agree with your premise though, to me the idea of "winning" history has always been a little odd.
 
Well.. disable teh score victory as well than ;-)
