Hi all, i found out that the new expansion was coming just like a week before the 22, the release date for us poor non US players. I quickly asked a friend who has paypal or something (i dont trust internet payments shame on me) to buy it for me on a certain site, which he promptly did. Now, he told me last monday he has the game waiting for me, i told him "great, but im tired and its hot and im busy etc, i'll grab it saturday when we meet" :D

Anyone else here would have waited so long? With the game waiting for you a few km's away? :D

I confess im waiting with some anticipation to try it out :(

About the advice part, what civ should i try out? Im tempted to start with all settings random minus that i feel like playing at king at least, iirc when i stopped playing civ several months ago (november maybe) i was at the level above...

But i'd also try some of the new civs, however im also a guy who likes to enjoy the new games taking my time with them, dont want to rush trough it ;)

Flame and advise away :D

I think the best way to begin now is exactly as you put it, all random, even the civ.

Religion adds an adaptability that allows every Civ to play differently, or play quite cheesily following their strengths, or the strengths of the terrain around them. I'd perhaps suggest that you do your own little random Civ selection though, so that you can rule out a few Civs that you are perhaps bored of before you pick.

Right now though there are a few really cool Civ strategies to try out.

Maya get a very nice faith start so they can take their pick of the religious beliefs, and often the UA gets them their second GP just after you've founded your religion, allowing for a very quick enhancement.

Austria can annex or puppet allied City States for 500 gold. It's crazy. Makes them a new contender against Greece for best CS synergy.

Arabia can now explode from their desert start (if you don't disable start bias) by picking a pantheon belief that gives them +1 faith per desert tile, and beelining for Petra, a new wonder that improves desert tiles drastically.

Carthage get a free harbour in every coastal city, making auto trade routes. Works great with Messenger of the Gods, a pantheon belief that gives +2 science per city with a trade route. So good for the rapid expander.

And many more. Find what suits you best. I doubt you'll be able to manage the slow approach, you'll reach the 1900s and you won't be thinking of your impending victory, you'll be thinking of your next start. Gods and kings is full of new things to try.

But I've found that I can bend a religion to my Civ and terrain so don't mind going random at all.

I really have been liking Austria and the Dutch. Dutch are crazy crazy powerful on water maps, if you go conquest route. Austria is just plain awesome when taking CS into consideration, that plus they gan get a great army up and running fast.

Thanks, reading the forum im tempted to try Austria after my first random game, as well as Mayas. In the end i'll see how the new mechanics work then decide who to try :-)

I'm looking forward to sunday to play finally :-)
