I am an unlucky one today. I'm stuck at work and won't be able to get online until later. For you lucky ones who are taking a few minutes between turns to check in here could you answer some pressing questions?

If you get a second social policy and choose a different branch what do you lose if anything? Does it cost more? Is there an extra cost if you go down multiple branches?

Does The Colossus go obsolete?

Do the Pyramids give free granaries?

Does Stonehenge give free monuments (and at what difficulty does that effect disappear)?

Can you build Great Person Improvements ON jungle tiles without removing the jungle?

How is the gold output? When (what turn with "average exploration) would you find yourself with enough cash to buy a scout?

Does England's start bias put them on an island?

------------------------

Anyone have ones to add? Darn you work!!!

Yeah...I'm at work as well, but I'm not going to be very productive!

Stuck at work. But not to worry, when I get home and start my first border war, each unit that gets destroyed will be given a name from a list of everyone that posted that they were already playing before me.... (just kidding!) :D

AFAIK you don't lose anything, just the lower of the branches are generally the less powerful effects, so by opening lots of branches early you lose out on the more powerful effects where concentrating on one you can get to the more powerful later policies on that branch more quickly.

Does The Colossus go obsolete?

As far as I can tell no buildings or wonders obsolete in this game <3<3<3

Do the Pyramids give free granaries?

Workers 50% faster.

+8 culture, it doesn't give monuments. Which is ace cause can build them too.

It removes them automatically. Trading Posts work without tearing down the trees tho.

Don't know actually wasn't paying attention. Money is tight for me but I've been going science crazy with the Babs so didn't bother with many trading posts.

Does England's start bias put them on an island?

no idea, but I'd assume it'd put em near water rather than an island...

Also stuck at work...

Anyone who is not stuck at work.... is not on the forum.... Duh!

Thanks Lemmy!

I wasn't sure if you lost the passive benefit of the Honor chain (barb location) if you later unlocked Liberty.

The wonder questions were all due to the stuff that has been constantly changing about them (Strat guide says at lower levels stonehenge gives monuments for example and that Colossus obsoletes with Navigation).

That's sweet about jungles and trading posts. 3 food 3 gold tiles if they're on a river!

Thanks again! :D

There was a dev quote about this, I think, saying that they wanted social policies to feel progressive, in that you were always adding on what you had before (rather than Civ IV's civics, where you switched between alternatives).

The exception, by the way, are the mutually exclusive chains (e.g. Piety and Rationalism). If you've adopted one, you can adopt the other later but you lose all benefits of the first chain (and I think there's some sort of revolution/anarchy as well).

Stuck at work too!

Definitely the longest day of my life.

On the plus side, I'm on my way to pick up the game now. (On my lunch break)
