Foreign submarine in Swedish waters

Assuming that the submarine didn't enter the Baltic (Fairly certain that both the Danes and Swedes would have picked up on that) there are four options: Poland, Finland, Germany or Russia. Now, as I understand, three of those countries are members of the EU together with Sweden, and are on fairly good terms, not something you would describe as a threat. Leaving Russia as the main suspect.

At least you don't pretend not taking a side.

Looks like as some rescue operation of ultra-small submarine conducted by joint Russian-Liberian navy. You have to take some care, noticing the recent export products of 2 countries involved, though, as such subs are used for smuggling too.

Liberian tanker NS Concord, yes. What is\was digging water there for around a week or so. Such subs need a "mothership" to refuel etc, fully autonomous only for relatively short amount of time.

They're looking for Atlantis, duh. It could be anywhere, and if it's conveniently placed near St. Peterburg, well, the possibilities are endless.

Don't know, probably usual military stuff picked up by journalists to make breaking news out of nothing. A couple of months ago there were similar reports in Russian news about foreign submarine spotted in Barents Sea and chased away by Russian navy. May be there was some recon activity in both cases.
I recall this getting some minor traction in our news service, but a quick Google has availed me of nothing. Wasn't this a case of an American sub operating in the Bering Strait, which is fair enough, since the Strait separates Russia and Alaska, and the Russian media hyped it up due to Obama temporarily tough-talking - before his bi-weekly foreign policy backdown - over the Crimea? Russia also 'accidentally' violated Alaska's airspace at around the same time, just to prove they could, I guess.

At least you don't pretend not taking a side.

Depends on what the sides are:

If the sides are: "This is more likely to be a Russian Submarine" vs. "This is probably not a Russian Submarine" then I am firmly in the former camp. If the sides are "The Russians are evil" vs. "Stop Oppressing the poor Russians" then I take no side.

I prefer a moderate approach. "Stop Oppressing the the poor evil Russians."
