Forum makeover

Is it just me, or does the board look 'old and outdated' ?
I hope I'm not the only one who wants an awesome new forum theme for this board.

You can choose different skins for the board in the bottom left-hand corner. The default setting is "Modern CFC," but you can change it to a number of different skins.

I'm not a fan of any of them, but the black one is a little nicer.

I think Modern CFC looks fine, it's better than the vBulletin 4 garbage.

I personally recommend and use the Christmas theme throughout the year... nice and jolly and cheerful!

I always did find the default theme pretty dull, though, and switched to the Mac OS theme shortly after joining here (it's only been this past year that I've used Christmas year-round). The default theme is drab, gray, and rectangulr. Even the red is somewhat dark. Christmas, by comparison, it brighter (both the white and its red), more colorful (it adds green), and has less geometric (and especially rectangular) shapes. IMO the default theme is one area where Apolyton is better than CFC (edit: this statement based on the old 'Poly green, although IMO the new one is nicer too).

But if there is going to be a new one, there needs to be someone who is willing to make one. As a satisfied Christmas user, I'm not volunteering myself.

edit2: Here is a link to an old poll that includes some old styles that aren't around anymore (ever since the upgrade to vBulletin 3 in 2004 I think). I recall seeing a picture of the green one at one point, but can't find it now.

I am simply so used to "modern" I can't stand it any other way.

Black messes up avatars/smileys etc.

I've used black since whenever it came out. Everything else looks weird now.

I like the modern, becuase it seems simple and easy to read, but I do find it kind of dull. Though I'm not sure how "exciting" you can make a skin.

I told Thunderfall if a test board was available, I'd give it a try - I've done skinning on InvisionFree and IPBFree boards, and it's kinda fun. But paid boards rarely make test forums available for experimenting.

I've been using Dark Blue for years, I just switched to Modern CFC, it is not nice on the eyes.

Which one do you find hard on the eyes? I've been using Dark Blue for almost the entire time I've been here. I did try the others, but find Dark Blue to be the most comfortable.

I wish we had a nice light green, though. That one we do have is too dark.

I think that only holds true for older monitors... I think we had a thread/discussion on Google switching their homepage's background to black, and it was discussed that not much (or any?) energy is actually saved versus using bright colors or white.

Modern CFC. Dark Blue is awesome, I've been using it for years.

yeah, green would be nice if it was paler.

Just went through all the skins. Still like modern, Christmas is the next IMO, but it looks weird in summer, then black. I could use black if I wanted, but modern is fine with me.
