Takes one to know one!
I got a pretty good individual and departmental goals bonus at work (and work had a good financial year) so I decided to buy myself a Dark Age style helmet to go with the sword I bought recently. Made in the Spangenhelm style, with a horsehair crest and North Sea style animalistic carvings along the rim of the helm and noseguard. I think I looks pretty baller and will look even better when the chainmail haubergeon I'm making is finished. (Steel Rings, ~1/4" diameter.) I still need to fiddle around with the suspension inside the helmet to it sits a bit higher and fix the backwards lean. (Tunic is homemade, although when I made it I borked up the V-neck and it opens too wide. Hopefully the mail will 'fix' that by covering more of it up so it can't fold out as far. I also need to get/make a proper sword belt. Right now I'm using my old belt I wore to work where some of the fake leather started to wear off.)
Close look at the helmet.
Behold a proud Anglo-Saxon theng ready to fight for his lord!
Also, I think I found my new dating app picture!
"Hey guys, if you are looking for someone to fight off Viking raiders, I'm your man!"
Man, I am really itching for a good claymore right about now....
For $550 you can have a battle-ready claymore with scabbard made by a pretty good manufacturer.
I got my sword and helmet through Kult of Athena (ignore the silly spelling and website that looks like it hasn't been updated since Clinton was president). They are generally regarded as one of the best storefronts for swords and armor.
Hmmmm...it seems you would do well in a sword fight since you have clearly missed the point, Anglo-Saxon.
Oh, Scots versus Anglo-Saxons. Hahahaha. I get it. That and the response were actually quite clever. I like it.
Though in my defense the claymore is nearly 1000 years after the period I'm going for and the Scots were still migrating over from Ireland.
I'm aiming for a very late Roman/ Migration period look, the so-called 'Arthurian' period in the British Isles.
I remember seeing pictures of her as a baby. They certainly do grow up.
Minus the sword, you're looking very SCA.
(real swords aren't allowed except for special court ceremonies such as knighting; this is due to RL safety regulations)
or we jus' gettin' old?
Both are happening at the same time. It's a double whammy!
Darksword Armory (the maker of the sword you linked) is a bit of hit and miss for what I could read online.
However their prices are affordable even if the quality control is not always even (especially for older models).
anyway, swords are overrated, you can win a fight even without using it
I'm not afraid of swords, I have a much more fearsome weapon ...
You can easily stab somebody in the neck
Pft, stabbing is so vulgar ... and that's like saying you can use a nuclear bomb to bludgeon someone to death
I do spend every Monday elegantly stabbing friendly people!
(Note: rapier fencing training on Monday)
Is that a recording of you??? Which one are you?
I am recording this rapier video, so I am not either of the two.
I tend to fence like the guy with funny trousers (I learned from him).
You can see me in the video from a couple of posts above ... Coincidentally with fancy trousers too
You can see some more of Longsword and rapier fencing here:
Fancy trousers are fancy as hell.
