For those of us too lazy to click the link, WTH are you talking about!?

that is supposed to be spelled "fourth edition" but the southern comfort drink says otherwise

ps: i pm'd the mod about spelling.

I don't know much about dungeons and dragons, but I did play a computer game once that was apparently based on it and found it fun. I highly doubt I'd like the boardgame style though. I'm not a big fan of complex boardgames.

Really? In the words of some of my role-playing inclined friends, the video was apparently "insulting". Apparently they contest to the idea that D&D is just about attacking a fictional troll or a klobold with twenty sided die. I disagree.

Personally, I found D&D to be solely for nerds.

I dunno, I think the line between what nerds and nonnerds can do is really becoming blurred. Nerddom is more a way of life than any specific hobby.

For example, the most non-nerdy person I know is hardcore into WoW. He looks like a model, he's in peak physical condition, he would completely wreck any person who has ever posted on this forum in a fight, he's on the fast track to multiple NCAA Wrestling championships, and hot girls pretty much throw themselves at him. And he plays WoW religiously.

Theoritcally, I would concede to this point. But my claim was.. more of an observational statement; in that all the D&D players I saw came in three types

1) Skinny male nerd
2) Overweight male nerd
3) Moderately overweight girl who happens to also be a nerd

Maybe GarretSidzaka has had better experiences?

well, i married a woman that i gamed with in high school and have a kid :)
most of my current group are basically hard core mutha fudgers who you wouldn't think are gamers. but they themselves like to think they are nerds.

edit: we are all also SCA (see my avatar)

Well i can't speak for D&D, but the pen&paper rpgs i used to play were mainly about trying to outwit the gamemaster by exploiting loopholes in the rulesets.
Combat was handled by a messy Turbo Pascal programme.

So what new stuff will it bring ? (yes i don't want to look at the trailers and stuff - someone sum it up :p) New classes/spells or WTH ?

I still can't believe people actually play that in pen&paper. One of the most time consuming thing i've ever heard.
Anyway i wanted to tell you about about D&D in videogames. It's a "we're to lazy to come up with a new/different combat system and stuff so we'll just make lots of games based on this set of lame rules" thing.

There are some intresting parts to the ruleset i'll give it that. Heck - i'm playing IcewindDale2 right now.

The whole universe of it (Faernum and stuff) seems kinda boring. Even tho i played 3-4 (?) games in this universe i never could get into it. Sure the main stories were nice but everything else was not really ... good.
OTOH i found a much greater fascination (at that age) about the Might&Magic(6-8) | Wizardry | Warcraft | Diablo | Starcraft universes.

DAMN yOU mUNCHINKS MiN MAxERS!!!!!!

Oh no, a real role-player! Run for the hills!

They had an awesome universe with the Planescape campaign setting, but unfortunately it was discontinued. I agree that Faerun is a little dull and run out of the mill. It's the sort of universe that the gamemaster is expected to flesh out.
