'Freedom Tower' to be built on WTC Site.

Ugly as sin. So were most of the other preliminary designs... but oh well. The old ones, at least, looked vaguely like they fit in to the surroundings even if they were big and blocky.

Time to count my blessings I live well out of sight of them.

It should be bigger but still 1776 is a nice big number.

I like the idea of putting up a bigger and better building because I like sticking other people's noses in it in general - call it a character flaw or call it a competitive advantage, but Europe would never take a risk like that, that's for sure. The name is patronizing, simple-minded and jingoistic. Not a surprise considering that these words are practically the current administration's slogan.

Looks Good :goodjob:

Freedom Tower is to rise 70 floors and be topped by wind-harvesting turbines that designers predict will provide 20 percent of the building's energy.

BTW It'll be the world tallest, but only for a short while as a higher building is already planned (IIRC its constructions is to begin very soon - in a matter of days actually)

wont be long before we have buildings where you'll get nose bleeds before you reach the top floor...

Looks like the Statue of Liberty just got upstaged! The future and indelible symbol of New York will now be a glass version of its trademark gesture!

:D :mischief:

I like it. But I hate the name. It really is 1984 the way they slap "freedom" on everything.

Certainly, gannon, you remember that the terrorists who destroyed the WTC "hate our freedoms" (or should I say your freedoms?) and that this was the only cause why they committed their crimes... so that is why the name :)

Yes, this "freedom" everything trend is quite annoying and tacky.

True. But I can stand Freedom Tower a lot more than Freedom Fries.

ya know, I was thinking, and to be noent, I really wouldnt mind at all if the new woters resembled a giant finger flipping off the world ;)

I know. In fact anything built on the Trade Center site is the only thing deserving of "freedom" in its name. But lately everything has been "freedom", "liberty", or "patriot" that is is oversaturation, and suddenly the things that deserve the name sound tacky.

The concept is good. Now, if only they could stop with the obsessive compulsion to put "freedom" in every single new designation...

I toyed with the idea 1 1/2 years ago. Doesn't need to be done.

Looks very futuristic and pointy and will make for an impressive new Manhattan Skyline...

I like it!

:)

The finger is very appropriate. Shall we call this tower The Finger?

I understand The Finger will not gain official recognition as highest anything. Not "structure", not "building". Others top it in those fields already. But the number will be worth something, even a decade from now when tour guides repeat it to gawkers on the elevator.
