just to add to this list, (great idea), to use the Queue, you hold down the shift key, i asked this question today and it seems that a few people don't know how to use this.

Loading Ships: Yes, you can load settlers and other units onto galleys etc. Just move them onto the galley! I'm not sure how you do it when the galley is in a city, although I'm guessing that you hit the 'L' for Load button. Maybe people are getting confused because in Civ II you had a 'sleep / board next ship' option.

On that, it is a bit annoying that you need to right-click on each unit in a city / square and choose to activate it. Why can't you just hit 'A' and then click on the units you want to activate (perhaps you can and I haven't figured it out yet...) It is also very difficult to see what units are in what square. What was wrong with the box that showed you when you clicked on the square?

And one 'bug' maybe..... I was able to build an aircraft carrier, before I had discovered flight! I can imagine the city governer trying to justify himself.... < we'll, y'know, a flat-top ship just seemed a really good idea... The flat-top looks good on the soldiers, so the next step was the ship...>

Hate when I something cant understand in the game. If u know, tell me please, how defined number of turns that domestic advisor screen shows, to complete current research. If science tax rate is 10% and 1 science per turn is produced, then 15 turns needed to complete research for exemple, but when I increase science tax rate to 50% and 5 science per turn is produced, the number of turns to complete research stay the same, or maybe 13 turns or so instead of 3 turns ([15 turns to complete research/ 1 science unit per turn = 15 science units to complete research] in first example, then in second example [15 science unints to complete research / 5 science units per turn = 3 turns to complete research]). So why number of turns stay almost trhe same? Help me please, cant play the game when something unclear for me. Thanks.
P.S. Sorry for English.

Didnt really bother to read the other replies(sorry I'm short on time) um is there any way to call for an election for secretary-general if the first showed no clear majority?

I dunno if you're still updating this thread. If you are, it'd be nice to put the queue commands in it. That way, we won't have the same question posted everyday, maybe. :D

How do I use the queue?
Shift-Click - Add to production queue.
Shift-Q - Save production queue as default.
Q - Load production queue with default.
Shift-Del - Removes all items from the queue.
Click-Del - Removes the item clicked.

I know it would be really boring, but could you edit the questions so that they are displayed in bold letters. It would be easier to look for an specific question. If it is too much trouble, don't mind. Thanks for the FAQ.

Edit: Added more queue options

Meneer hasn't visited the forum in alsmost 2 weeks. :( I hope he will come back and continue to maintain this excellent FAQ.

In the mean time, I will update the FAQ a little bit... :)

Sorry, I'm quite busy lately outside of computer gaming, so I have little time to play Civ3 or read the messageboards. I'll try to look now and then but cannot promise to visit too often.

And thanks to Thunderfall for updating my post :goodjob:

One thing from the original post:
I can't build railroads. Why?
Your capital needs to have access to Coal and Iron strategic resources.
The truth is that the square where the worker is needs to have access to Coal and Iron, so if you're in a different continent than your capital (that has access to coal and iron), you will be able to build railroads only if one of your cities in the continent has a harbor or an airport, or if you have access to the resources in that continent.

There's a little more with this bit:

What do the numbers and icons by my cities mean?
. The large number on the left shows the size of the city (red if the city is decreasing in size, yellow if it stays the same, white if it's growing

My addition:

If the population number square has a white border then the city is being automatically governed.

why are the oil spots on maps all screwed up?

I get numerous games where I'd played till late Industrial era only to found out there are no oil available in the entire world!
No where i can access besides diving down oceans!
CAN I DIVE DOWN OCEANS?
Without oil, everything after and between the Industrial era is useless and unplayable. That is, of course, 1/3 the bulk of the game. THanks a lot.

Could my post justify for a FAQ? or a damn bug?!?

HELP!!

I have civ3 ver 1.07, how come no matter how much "commerce" I allocate to science, from 1 to 35 so far, it always takes 32 turns to research everything, the only time the research period ever changes is when zero is allocated to research, and then a blank appears in the countdown box. This cannot be right, can it?

I am forced to play the "pope" style.

32 is the max number of turns you can take to research something. So no matter how much or little you allocate to science, if it will take more than 32 turns at that allocation, your adviser will tell you 32 turns (and you'll get it that fast). The moral: If all your techs will take you 32 turns, research the most expensive one because that way the 32 turn cap will give you the most "free" science.

Ok,the English talked me into signing a mutual protection and right of passage agreement. On the diplomacy screen it said "can be canceled peacefully after 20 turns"... Well? How do I do it? Can somebody please help me?

That's the sign for WLTKD (We love the [ruler] day) [ruler] = King, Emperor, Queen etc.

Buildning an army without a leader is possible according to the specifics to the minor wonder Military Academy, but how do you create a new army.

I don't get any option except for airlift(I have airports in my cities), (of course all other regular unitoptions are shown.) The key to build an army in the manual is 'B', but it doesn't work.

Pls help me! I'm about to crush the evil Romans because they attacked my coalsupply!!! [punch] :rocket: :tank:

Go to your city with the military academy and change the production to Army.
