Well, after seeing some of the comments in the thread about the upcoming Ironman movie, I wanted to see what people thought of the various movies that have come out from comic book origins. Vote for the ones you liked and and dont vote for the ones you thought sucked. And by all means feel free to comment in the thread on why you voted the way you did. Poll coming.

Batman Begins.

Let's all be honest here, nothing comes close.

Only Spiderman for me... and only the first one. I hate the second one with a passion. And the third one isn't great either.

All the others are far away. If I had to vote for the worst, it would definitely be Catwoman. It's one of the worst (non-Bollywood ;)) movies ever, IMHO.

I hear ya. Some movies should just never have sequels. Like Blade for instance....the first movie was inspired and very well done. And then they go downhill from there. Kinda like the original Batman movies....the first one with Michael Keaton was great...and then they got progressively more stupid until Christian Bale in Batman Begins saves the day and reinvigorates the character.

I didnt much care for the Ghost Rider movie either...I just felt they could have done so much more with it....

Also, some of the movies got a real bad rap when I thought they were still ok. Two in particular were the Hulk and Daredevil. While they werent perfect interpretations of the comics they came from, they were still very entertaining movies. Lets face it, Nick Nolte was great in his role and Colin Farrell was just a hoot as Bullseye. Those movies are worth watching just for the job they do in them.

I voted for X-Men and Sin City.

Batman and Spiderman both had awesome first movies, but the sequels quickly fell down to Suckyland so I did not include them.

I voted the X-men and Sin City. Would have voted for Tim Burton's Batman films... but the whole series, no thanks.

Daredevil - Never seen it
Blade - Went from barely passable to godawful
Superman - Never seen it
Batman - I think i really liked one of them as a child. The one with the Joker, afaik.
Hulk -Never seen it
Spider-Man - I found the character of Spiderman irritating.
Hellboy - Never seen it
The Punisher -Never seen
Catwoman -Never seen it
300 -Never seen it
Sin City - My favourite of the bunch. Excellent soundtack!
Ghost Rider - Ugh, what a stinker. Should've known better than to fall for this one, after a chick-flick loving friend recommended it
Fantastic Four - Never seen it
Transformers - Much better than i expected!
X-Men - First one was OK, but the follow ups weren't great

the question i have is how many people actually read the comics before seeing the movies.

You need to get out more...some of those that you have missed were absolutely great movies.

300 was the best comic adaption for me. Batman Begins comes really close, but nothing could beat 300 for fun value.

Batman Begins is the best superhero movie ever, and a great movie all around, (the older ones started off ok and went to pure megacrap) the Spiderman trilogy as a whole was quite good. Sin City is overrated and is just ok, Daredevil and Hulk are simply awful, and the X-Men series is slightly below average. Transformers was bad, and Hellboy was also slightly below average. Most comic to movie movies suck.

Edit: And I thought the newest Superman wasn't as bad as people said. It was simple escapism, but at least it was mildly humorous and entertaining.

I've only seen the Superman series (Superman II was the best, IV was trruly awful, not seen the new one), and Batman 1-3 (generally poor overall and overhyped massively, Blade 1&2 (poor), X-Men 1 (OK).

I read my Dad's spiderman/hulk annuals when I was a nipper, they were OK. V for Vendetta is the best comic I have ever read but since Alan Moore distanced himself from the movie I didn't bother with it but may watch it on DVD at some point.

Judge Dredd was awful too but the comics were good.

I hear Fantastic Four is worth watching for Jessica Alba in spandex, but word of mouth for the others hasn't been too good among my mates.

Edit: V for Vendetta was pretty good. Easily better than X-men, in my opinion. Of course, i have never read any of the comics (but that goes for all film mentioned here).

Come to think, the Asterix films should have been listed! Some of those were excellent.

Spider-man was great. The second one was decent. Then three sucked massively. Blade is the same. X-men is about the only one that maintains decency throughout the series, but only decency, not excellence. And 300 is probably one of the best movies I've recently seen. And V for Vendetta is probably the best.
