I've actually long been pondering someone actually buying me one of those clocks, them not being able to notice anything wrong with, and me killing them by flipping my table with a chessboard on it at them because they also have no clue what an en passant capture is and refused to allow me to use it against their first double move pawns.

I need to replace my table with a chainsaw and scary mask for such purposes.

So you're saying the metric system limits us to crap like a little ISS but the imperial system would enable us to travel at light speed and such? Well I think that settles the whole issue as to which is the superior system.

Maybe it means it is just a humorous picture and you can lighten up a bit...

I believe it's more a "Reality v. Fantasy" kind of picture. Or you know, a pun on "Imperial".

I think it's saying that bhsup's sense of humour has been woefully misunderstood.

Thank you, Mise :) Now to discuss something more important. The "climate change" conspiracy the UN is trying to force on us because they want to wreck our economy!

What exactly is wrong or funny about those clock dials with Roman numerals on them? I must be missing the comic potential there.

The US government itself is metric. The units of measurement the US uses is itself defined using metric.

The Roman numeral for 4 is "IV", not "IIII".

I've been fluent in Roman numerals since I was 7 or 8 and I grew up in a house full of clocks, so I'm sorry to say that anomaly is utterly unremarkable to me. As a web-search will tell you, there is nothing unusual about having IIII instead IV on a clock-face. This page provided me with this interesting nugget of information (amongst several others):

I have a hard time believing modern clock makers are paying respect to the god Jupiter, but if it's on the net, it must be true.

I don't think it's very plausible, either, as the page I linked to had several other more plausible suggestions, but tradition often enforces silly things. Carl XVI Gustav isn't the sixteenth King Charles of Sweden either, but still.

In the spirit of the OP, I will say that thinking IIII is an epic fail is itself an epic fail. :)

It is incorrect, though. It's just as incorrect to use "IIIII" instead of "V" or "IIIIIIIIII" instead of "X", which were also sometimes used. Just because it was a common error, doesn't mean it isn't an error. :dunno:
