There is a warrior guarding a tribal village, which means it will defend it untill you attack it. So I felt safe settling a city 2 tiles away from it, with an axeman on the way. This is what happened though... Maybe a bit stupid from me, but I had to laugh by the result anyway (one of those 'ok... lets just reload once this game'-moments)

Should've let the borders pop it, you can't get barbs or experience that way. Didn't know that they could spawn inside borders that way though, I think that's bit of a bug/inconsistent design there.

once BFC pop.. the village should yield to u anyway. (not sure if that would create a HOSTILE situation or not..)

not 100% certain, but that was salvageable I think. You can sacrifice your worker by moving it onto the hill se, and barbs attack workers/settlers before anything else IIRC.

The barbs used to (still do?) guard goody huts - think it is/was coded in. Not at all uncommon to see an archer or something sit on a hut and it does nothing until attacked/the hut pops by culture. Much better than them founding a city somewhere that got annoying though.

haha nice, as others have said you should have just waited for the nearby cities border to pop. When culture claims a hut you will receive one of the following.

    Tech, Map, Gold

If a unit pops a hut you'll receive the above as well as

Hostiles, Exp, Healing (if unit is hurt bad enough).

When I play I'll try to pop as many huts with borders / scouts as possible. Helps to get a free tech from them :) but the gold is always handy. Maps are sometimes pretty worthless, unless you get them at the very start and reveal some nice land you don't have to explore as much.

Anyone have the code for hut popping? I seem to always get better pops using a warrior then a scout.

After all, I indeed should have waited for border pop, since it also gives better yield on average.

Ye, I reloaded an autosave. I try not to reload anymore, but situations like these can be an exception.

Ye I think you are right about that, but I was more like 'omg' than thinking of how to get away with it ;)

I believe the only difference in pop method is that scouts + explorers get everything except hostiles, all other units get everything. When i get a hut through porder pops, i've only got gold, but i will usually only get one like that if i spawn next to one in 4000bc, so i really don't know about that option (except of course no XP or healing, and you won't get hostiles either from what i've heard).
